How Ryan Switzer could help Dallas re-start a stalled passing game

The other day I posted an article about the problems I saw with the Cowboys passing game in 2017. While creating that piece, I watched a lot of game film, including every pass play in the Cowboys and Eagles season finale. While much of that article was negative, there was one positive that jumped off the screen, and that is the Cowboys should be using Ryan Switzer more in the passing game.

This is a two-fold argument. One half is that Switzer runs very nice routes and seems pretty dependable when catching the ball. The guy looks like he can play the slot. The other half of the argument is that with Switzer and Beasley on the field together, the Cowboys could do some unique things. The team’s stubborn adherence to their power-running, vertical-passing scheme would probably preclude them from doing it, which is a shame. Of all my complaints about the Cowboys offense, their inability to, or flat-out disdain for, incorporating new elements, plays, schemes into their offense would top the list.

It’s worth a shot to see what he brings as a receiver. He had some third down conversations against the Eagles

He and Beasley do the same things
Quick in and out routes that are almost impossible to cover one on one
I think I could find a way to get both on the field at the same time and make it effective

They will bring him in next year.

motion him to the line and run the ball. Just like they did with lucky and Harris before him.

Wait, he was not used all year yet now he represents hope?

What kind of bizarre world is this?

You might as well have written this nonsense article back in the spring after he was drafted.

Jet sweep baby!
that is the limit of their imagination with this scheme.............or its the scheme limit to adaptation that might help a system QB shell shocked from a 8 sack game

Rico will be unleashed as well. Golden

You'll have to ask our coaching staff why they never had Beasley and Switzer on the field running routes simultaneously. Everyone knew it could be dynamic, but of course our coaching staff is decades behind.
When we first drafted Switzer, I was convinced that one of the biggest reasons was to take advantage of mismatches with him and Bease on the field at once. Maybe next season?

Switz looked very good in the last meaningless draft position loss game. Just another example of this team not utilizing players fast enough. As others have said the whole purpose was to use both him and Beese together...Never happened. At NC Switz caught everything.

Because you're too limited on the field in your blocking scheme when two of your receivers are the size of chihuahuas.

Switzer does intrigue me as a receiver but he probably can't be used much unless Beasley's off the field and Beasley is just a better player.

I bet the coaches do want to have Switz and Beas on the field at the same time but Witten just refuses to come out of the game.

That or too stubborn to try something new..either way it’s absurd. and at this point inexcusable.

How do the Pats do it then, they run with Ammendola and a couple of other surfs regularly.

The Patriots somehow turn their run game on and off and they have small marmits as WRs.

I know that is not a fair comparison, but it can be done if you get the right Chihuahuas.

Just off what I see with both Beasley and Switzer, they are salty enough to try it. We just don't bother.

We just do what we do.

Hey, whichever of you two white guys, go run this quick out. The play is supposed to go to Dez anyways. And he can't get it, then there is Witten a yard short of the sticks. Hope he makes it.
