How should the Offensive Gameplan be designed for the AZ game?

I'm curious about the offensive game plan against the Cards, who have two very good DEs. They'll put a lot of pressure on us so the key for Bledsoe will be to get rid of the ball quickly or else we can expect to see him get sacked quite a bit. So if I were deveoping a gameplan for this game I would design it around the running game firs to limit the passing situatuions needed. And for passing I would use quick passes to WRs, passes to backs out of the backfield, and would severely limit the downfield passes.

For the running game i would play Anthony Thomas over Barber because he is good at both running and catching passes out of the backfield. I would also activate Thompson and deactivate Barber for this game. Or best route-running/pass catching back is still Anthony Thomas which is why I would take him over Barber for this game.

To guarantee completions from quick QB throws to WRs, we must have our best posession WRs catching passes by running crisp short routes underneath the coverage in the flats and over the middle of the fileed. To me that means Keyshawn Johnson and Jason Witten should play an integral role. Also important will be the backs out of the backfield.

The X-factor will be Tucker's (at LT) and Pettiti's (at RT) ability to hold their own more times than not. If they can do that, that will free up Jason Witten more to go out for passes. If instead we need to keep Witten in to help in pass protection then we're going to have a long day offensively because we will be left with only one posession WR (i.e. Key). That's because Terry Glenn and Pearless Price are pure speed guys, and with a heavy pass rush I don't see many downfield passes being of much use, provided the limited time Bledsoe will have to get rid of the ball.

I agree...this is one game where I would hammer the run hard. Also, I think we need to run several draws and screens...causing the DE's to think before they head straight downhill. We need some plays that forces them to stay back...then hopefully we can launch a few 7 drop passes.

Barber's pass blocking is decent, and he's a much bigger threat on screens and draws. There's no reason to inactivate any of them, teams carry 3 RBs to the game.

Well in that case - if do carry all three bqacks - then I think the one expendable player will be Pearless Price, because we already have a deep threat WR in Terry Glenn.

What? Wasn't that the gameplan against Seattle? A plan that seemed to be completely derailed by awful pass blocking.

That would leave Dallas with on 2 legit WR, Cooper is good at special teams but that is about it. Just as last week Price will play I can promise you that!

Entirely different defense then Seattle. You don't take the same game plan week to week with a different team. This is a team we SHOULD be able to run on early, then hopefully CREATIVELY throw the ball down field. These two DE's pin their ears back from the opening snap, so if we make them stay back some that will help with the passing game.

Whereas other games I would be the FIRST throwing out...throw to open up the run...if you have ever noticed my flood of threads and posts about opening this thing up after the Skins game...

The early run should help keep those DE's in check.........

I never said we would -- only that the suggested gameplan sounded a lot like the gameplan everyone was complaining so bitterly about from last week.

Price is our punt returner and 3'rd Wr... He's active this week for sure...

Statistically their defense is middle of the pack. They give up little over 100 per game on the groud and little over 200 yards passing.

This tells me we need to have a balance as far as our offense is concern
Although I think we can score on these guys, I don't think they would be a pushover.

We must call plays which counter the DEs pass rush: screens, draws, play-action, roll-outs. We must have a credible running game. While Thomas and Thompson should contribute, Barber is excellent on screen passes, good at pass blocking, and a fine runner. All three should be active, and Barber likely will contribute significantly.

My opinion only.
