I like him as well, but I don't know how well he fits due to his size.

One other option is Ben Leber, but he has been banged up and I don't know if he would be an upgrade over Fujita.

How about Derek Smith, the ILB from SF? Has played in the 3-4. Led the team in tackles for several years. Looks like the type of hard nosed vet that would be good for mentoring the young guys. His age does scare me a bit. I'd rathe be signing guys that are 25-26 than 30.

I'd like to find one vet LB in free agency and one impact rookie (Carpenter) in the draft.

Exaclty.

Get a FA LB for the inside and draft an OLB or vice versa.

Ahmad Brooks (UVA) would be a nice draft pick. He's an ILB right?
Carpenter is another good one.

Remember, Singleton and Thornton will be returning so that adds a little depth on the outside. But if Nguyen retires and we lose Shanle (which I wouldn't mind) that leaves only James and Fowler on the inside.
Burnett, I'm not sure where he plays this season.

I hope we draft Brooks for ILB, he is a great athlete. I think he even returned a few kicks at some point for Virginia.

Those would be great pickups, except runyan is 32 or 33 yrs old. I'd like to get a younger T, but that would be great FA pickups!!!!!!!!!

Lets just say NO to Ryan Longwell, period. I realize we need a kicker but lets not get desparate here. The Packers wouldn't let him go if he was worth a crap. Nobody lets a kicker go if they're worth anything these days. We either go after one of the big name ones signing them for more then any other team is willing to sign them for or we get inventive and get the talent scout wheels spinning NOW, and go find this diamond in the rough.

If I could only have one off that list, it would have to be Bentley, OLine is bigger need in comparison to secondary at this point.

I'd say we have 8 real concerns.

OT, OC, FS, ILB, OLB, WR, DT, K.

If we can grab half of those guys in FA and then grab 3 in the draft we would only need 1 answer from within.

TO me that would make for a sweet off-season.

As example might be:
K: Adam Vinatieri
WR: Antwaan Randel El or David Givens
FS: Will Demps
ILB: Derek Smith

r2. Claude Wroten DT, LSU
r3. Marvin Philip OC, CAL

Following this example we'd need Burnett or Thornton to take the OLB job opposite Ware or for Fujita to be much better.
