Dallas' first seven years in the NFL they were in the NFL East Division. The first six years there were 7 teams in that Division, in 1966 there were 8. In 1961 the 7 teams in the NFL East changed and some familiar rivalries began. Here's how the teams finished.

In 1967 the Cowboys were moved into the 4 team NFL Capital Division. In 1967 and 1969 the Saints were in the Division. In 1968 the Giants were instead of the Saints.

The Cowboys are the only Division Champions in NFL Capital Division History with 3.

1970 saw the introduction of the NFC East with 5 teams. It ran with these 5 teams until the 1982 strike season. In that season the 14 NFC Teams were all grouped together. The Cowboys finished 2nd in the Conference, the Commanders first, the Cardinals were 6th, The Giants were 10th, and the Eagles were 13th. From 1983 through 2001 things stayed as the same 5 team Division.

Interesting note...the 1976 and 1977 standings are the only time the teams have finished in the exact same spot in consecutive years.

Here's a good one to burn Commanders fans.

If you look closely at the way the teams finished you'll see that we find that Dallas finished ahead of Washington 28 times. Washington finished ahead of Dallas 19 times.

We have 20 Division titles which is more titles than their total number of seasons finishing ahead of us.
