How the Cowboys Hedged Their Bet on Dez Bryant with a 'Brilliant' Contract

I'm not trying nitpick, but this article leads you to believe that there is this tremendous safeguard in place. His guaranteed portion will be paid in full by March 15, 2016. That's seven and a half months away. That's it! The team was getting ready to go right into camp and then the season. When the season is over in February, Dez has just one and a half months to keep his nose clean before collecting his final guaranteed payment. That's not much of a safeguard so I'm not sure why it's being written as it is.

But put me in the camp as one that's not concerned with Dez. He has done nothing over the last 3-years to warrant any of my concern.

That's what I was saying. He gets 32m guaranteed immediately and another 13m in 8 months.

He may not physically get that money in a lump sum, but he is all but guaranteed to get every penny.

7m now, 9m over the season, 7m in March and another 9m for next year is pretty aggressive and is not brilliant or hedged in any significant way.

What I like about this contract is that it doesn't just protect the Cowboys. It protects Dez.

They're probably about 10 percent worried about Dez, and 90 percent worried about the idiots in his "family circle". Tyron Smith cut his family off. Dez doesn't look willing to do that, and I'm sure they take advantage of him at every turn.

They need to build him a nice little pad at the new facility just so he can escape the madness and find peace.

The article is complete and utter trash.

Endorsements.... The big issue there is Roc Nation didn't want Dez taking endorsement deals of any sort that didn't go through their office.
Did they cancel the Pizza Hut deal? IF you follow their other actions probably so. Read the cease and desist letters they've sent out.

This article reads as is a broke guy wouldn't show up to collect a free paycheck. Get a grip.

Is Dez professional? Who knows, but this is snark and dated nonsense mashed together to paint it as if Dallas was scared to death....
Yea, right.
Dallas let DeMarco flat walk for nothing in return.
They had Dez franchised and chose to give him the deal.
If they were scared it was of seeing another Roy Williams 11 or Joey Galloway where you pay a WR and he stinks up the place.
They've had years of ascending totals on the field and years of improved actions off it.

Has Dez failed to show up to anything related to football?
He's missed 0 games the previous 3 years and he's missed 1 game since his rookie season.
He came to workouts while "holding out".

Money and hedged bets? ROFL. That is just dumb. They gave Dez the same type contract they give other stars. Big bonus, 1st and 2nd year FULLY guaranteed. Possible renegotiation to lower cap hits in years 3 and 4.

He got a LARGER signing bonus than Demaryius Thomas. The supposed example contract.

He has 45m guaranteed which puts him in very rare air. Tyron Smith got 22m guaranteed.

Dez is eating 7m in cap hit this year(not ironically a number that fits the cap perfectly with Hardy playing 12 games). That number is 4th on the team and it's a smaller number than they'd eat if they tried to release him in in the next couple seasons.
There are no hedged bets. If Dez fails Dallas has very real issues at the position and with the cap.

Money, hangers on and all that jazz... Again that is a VERY old story. Dez has not even been in Dallas much of late. He has been in NYC with Jay Z and others of hat elite social circle sans any hangers on.
His house has been greatly reduced of friends and visitors and rumor is Dez cut a lot of people loose.

This hack was fired for being a tool and has made his way to a site that is seeking attention.

The fact that he lives in Desoto is bizarre to me. It's not a preferred area to live in for anybody that makes over 100K per year and it's a long way in traffic from the Cowboys facility. It will be almost impossible for him to stay there once they move to Frisco because the travel time is just to long.

Its not bizarre. He lived across the street from his handler David Wells in a house Wells buddy sold him.

Before that he lived about 3 blocks from Pres. GWBush .

With this deal and his ties to Wells mostly severed, he may find himself living up North close ot the new Frisco practice facility.
Celina and Prosper is where most players live.

All that said Deion just build a massive property near DeSoto.
He wanted to be closer to South Dallas and all the athletes there.
He left one of the nicest plots in Celina.Prosper ... looks like a dang grocery store was there.

this reminds me a great deal of all the ranting and raving on the field that was so negative with even former Cowboys as now announcers blasting Dez.

... then we heard it when he was mic'd up and it was leadership and about playing harder to win as a team.

Dallas is very exposed on this deal. They might physically control the money for a few extra months but he will be getting every penny of that 32m by the end of 2016.

Then he immediately gets 13m more for 2017.
It is at worst a 3/45m deal.

Dez is a special football player, but seems like an idiot off the field. I hate to be so impressionable, but reading things like this make me not want to go get his jersey.

Watch "Ballers" on HBO. Athletes who are idiots are far too common.
