Let's not forget that the reason Dallas became America's Team wasn't that we always won the big game. It was because we were percieved as the team that coudn't win the big game.

Let's take a moment and let that soak in. And then get ready for what may become the second coming of "America's Team".

The Cowboys became America's Team after we won the first Super Bowl and Roger Staubach.

We were nothing close to America's Team after Super Bowl V.

The Cowboys recieved that nickname because NFL Films title the Cowboys' 1979 highlight film "America's Team." They chose that title because they looked at the crowds that attended Dallas' games, road and home. They also found out that about 30% of all NFL merchandise sold at that time carried the Cowboys' logo, no other team even came close. Where ever the Cowboys traveled, huge crowds would come to see them. Their being "America's Team" is a testimony to Tex Schram's marketing abilities. Sure, the consecutive winning seasons helped, but Tex was the mastermind behind Dallas' popularity.:starspin
