More and more teams are looking at the success of young QBs and running games in both Dallas and Tennessee. In Dallas, a top round running back paired with a marginal QB prospect; in Tenn, a top round QB paired with an older RB thought to have seen his best days...both teams succeeding and winning due to building top OLs. Meanwhile, teams have watched what has happened in Minnesota when the OL turned to dust. The roadmap of the day is clear.
More and more teams are going to look at the usual tackles, but now also guards and even centers in rounds one and two. If your OL isn't sturdy at all 5 spots, with a little depth, do you now have second thoughts about just how much impact that WR, TE, or defensive player will have on the actual W-L record and your ability to 1) win time of possession; 2) win in the red zone; 3) hold on to the ball and a lead in the fourth quarter. Dallas is the gold standard of the times, dominating with almost nothing invested on defense, dominating and having success with youngsters because of the OL.
Clearly, we will be drafting late in each round this upcoming year and probably for future. With teams throughout the league realizing that an OLman may be the better long term investment in winning, rather than always taking the flash and pushing OL till later, Dallas can expect to see some unexpected gems at positions of need being pushed down the board like never before---WRs, TEs, CBs, LBs.
Top, can't miss DE's? No, but second tier DEs like we lamented over missing on this year...very likely.
It's a great time to have the OL in place and looking for impact players at other positions.
