How the OL helps Cowboys in future off-seasons

More and more teams are looking at the success of young QBs and running games in both Dallas and Tennessee. In Dallas, a top round running back paired with a marginal QB prospect; in Tenn, a top round QB paired with an older RB thought to have seen his best days...both teams succeeding and winning due to building top OLs. Meanwhile, teams have watched what has happened in Minnesota when the OL turned to dust. The roadmap of the day is clear.

More and more teams are going to look at the usual tackles, but now also guards and even centers in rounds one and two. If your OL isn't sturdy at all 5 spots, with a little depth, do you now have second thoughts about just how much impact that WR, TE, or defensive player will have on the actual W-L record and your ability to 1) win time of possession; 2) win in the red zone; 3) hold on to the ball and a lead in the fourth quarter. Dallas is the gold standard of the times, dominating with almost nothing invested on defense, dominating and having success with youngsters because of the OL.

Clearly, we will be drafting late in each round this upcoming year and probably for future. With teams throughout the league realizing that an OLman may be the better long term investment in winning, rather than always taking the flash and pushing OL till later, Dallas can expect to see some unexpected gems at positions of need being pushed down the board like never before---WRs, TEs, CBs, LBs.

Top, can't miss DE's? No, but second tier DEs like we lamented over missing on this year...very likely.

It's a great time to have the OL in place and looking for impact players at other positions.

Hopefully with a brand new facility and a team that has a bright future we can pull in a few extra free agents that we might not otherwise get.

As far as the draft goes.. I hope teams really reach for OL and RB's and leave all of the DB's and front 7 players for us.

drafting olinemen high doesn't always mean success, ask the rams who benched greg robinson.

New facility and a good future hopefully results in better free agents since we have not had as much success as I would like there. As for the draft I hope we go WR with 1 of the first 2 picks, then all defense there after on the upcoming draft.

What's it going to be then, eh?

Still will need a right tackle and swing tackle. I have zero faith in Chaz Green.

You have to draft the right players. Many teams have had success by loading up in certain spots (DL, offensive skill positions) and others have failed taking the same approach because they drafted duds.

Yes. I'd like to sign Leary with the money we save by letting Free go.

Then possibly a DE. Anyone know the ones that may be available next year?

Seems we're in that same spot we were several years back. Trying to find a stud 4-3 end is very hard. Especially while marijuana is on the banned list.

Moreso than ever before, I really think we have to be open to drafting a TE if right guy is there for us. Swaim, Hanna, and Escobar are not replacing Witten, not even close.

Not sure how a new practice facility will improve chances in free agency....if you want the best available...show up with the most money.
