How to evaluate a CB?

WOW! Fun game. But, a naive question maybe. How do you evaluate a CB? Henry had a terrific game! (I think) but I am just so confused after looking at the secondary from game to game. I used to think interceptions were how you marked a good CB. But they seem like kind of a misleading stat. They seem like, the closer I look, to be usually caused by a mistake from a QB throwing under pressure or a Coach making an easily guessed play call. On the other side we have folks like TNew who never get thrown to. So they have fewer chances for an interception.

With the different protection packages (Zone's or Man), how do you cut through the complexity and say this guy is good, when its feast or famine every week. Is this just a position that you say that only the coaches can evaluate?

Thanks,
Skyler

Me I try to use my dvr and flash back to see what happen. It is easier when i record the game then go back and watch it then when i do it on the actual game during commercials. You try your best to guess what the defense was doing or trying to do most the times you get the basics of what they where trying to do.

You also have to look at the defense try to see how much safety help they have how tight they play the wr and positioning etc etc.

Also you have to try and look at the defense Tampa; Bears and Indy run a cover 2 more than anything else the CB job is to keep everything in front of them some CB's play this scheme better than they would a man scheme. Ronade Barber of the Bucs is an example (imo) great cover 2 corner I just think he struggle in a man coverage scheme on a regular basis. Yes he can play man at times but I think he be exposed over a full season.

All I can say is DVR is your friend

Thats easy come on here and look at who everyone is either praising or whining about this week.

it's really hard for any of us to really judge CB play because theyre out of picture for most of the plays

When they are giving up big plays all the time...you pretty much know they are a liability to the team.

A turnover by the secondary IS significant, and it boils down to field position. It is a good play by the secondary...if not, then once you secured possession of the ball, it would revert to a similar distance, to give equal opportunities in distance to travel for a score, but that is NOT the way of football. A turnover IS a good play by the secondary, everybit as much as the product of a special team's play gives a shortened field also....

Mostly pay no attention to guys who can't tell you what a cover 2 means.

Step 1. Never listen to this guy.

I actually find it hard to pick out the coverages from watching it on TV. The typical camera angle focuses on the QB and you can't see what's going on in the secondary. Yesterday at the end of the first half, they showed an angle from behind the QB, and it looked like the Boys were in a Cover 3. If they would show those angles more often, it would be easier to pick out.

But when you see a guy just standing wide open, like happened when the Dolphins drove down at the end of the half, it's a zone, and it's hard to get any read on how well the CB is playing.

"Get over it" ?; way to make an articulate point there fort dick. You should hold back combative speech until it is necessary, dont you think? It is highly debatable whether or not it is constitutional. But the point here is the board is supposed to be free of religion and politics. We are here to argue and get pissed off at Eagles and Commander fans, not each other.
