I know Jerry ain't stepping down.... But I can wish...Pioli has the reputation of being a bit abrasive but he knows how to build a team.. KC is reaping the benefits of his moves now...NE hasn't been the same since he left... His major flaw is picking HC's...

The NFL is like Hollywood: a director has a hit or 2 and all of a sudden, he's given a massive budget and expectations hit the ceiling. But it turns out more often than not, that he was a one-hit wonder (think M. Night Shyamalan) and not the next Spielberg. GMs (and head coaches) in the NFL are like that. They hit the jackpot with a couple good drafts, put together a successful team, and they're the Next Big Thing. Then it turns out that the magic wasn't really there -- just some talent mixed with a bunch of luck. And luck tends to run out.

What William Goldman said about the formula for making successful movies is true for the NFL too: "Nobody knows nothing."

I'd say Herm and that staff where more crucial, especially that 2008 draft really set them up... Brandon albert, Brandon Flowers, Brandon Carr, Glenn Dorsey JAMAAL CHARLES! Kiper just redrafted this draft and Flowers, Charles and Albert where all first round picks!

What are you talking about? He was terrible in KC.

I'd agree with you if KC made the playoffs inspite of the talent there when Reid came on board. But he apparently had lots of talent so it looks like Pioli did something right.

This may be more than finding a GM, but one that is good AND can adapt to an environment...he definitely was compatible with Belichick.

Pioli definitely beats the GM Dallas has now.

KC had a lot of talent when Reid arrived. They didn't just magically replace all of the players last off-season.

Pioli is probably better as a scouting director than GM.

Most of those guys were drafted before he arrived.

Those weren't Pioli picks, as you pointed out. People don't like facts.

I took my young boys to the zoo the other day.

After taking a long look around I saw a lot of possible GM candidates that would be an improvement over what the Cowboys have now.

There is some sarcasm in this last sentence, but not much.

Pioli came on board in 2009. They had one winning record under him.

He hired Todd Haley and Romo Crennel.
He paid Matt Cassel a boatload of money
He traded away Gonzales when he still had 4-5 years of top caliber production
His drafts were hit or miss, especially considering their draft position.

Most of the impact players you see were brought in before he arrived.

If you want to look at well built teams... we should hire Herm Edwards or Marty Schottenheimer. Those two put staffs together and built great teams. Herm just had horrible luck at keeping a QB healthy. But Still... he drafted the majority of that Chiefs team.
