How to get over draft resentment?

I love the NFL draft. I started really researching players before the draft in 2002. When the Cowboys had the 4th overall pick in 2016 I really wanted to trade up for Carson Wentz. I became obsessed with him. I heard the Browns called the Cowboys to gauge their interest in moving up but they passed. The fact that the Eagles got him and he looks like an MVP caliber player already in just his 2nd season really makes things 10 times worse. Zeke is a stud but great RBs can always be found later the draft(Jordan Howard went in the 5th round of the same draft) When you have a 36 year old injury prone QB and you are picking 4th you have to do anything you can to move up. The Cowboys coached Wentz in the Senior Bowl so they knew more about him than any other team. He was also rated the number 1 QB on their draft board. The Cowboys usually don't select the player I want and I have been able to get over it. This time I can't get over it.

I wanted Wentz too but not at the price the Eagles paid for him. Now he is injured and he might not be the same when he comes back. I would have love to get Jimmy G but that probably is not going to happen. I am glad that we have Elliott a hope Dak can improve

"The Eagles sent five draft picks to the Browns: the No. 8 pick in the first round, a third-round pick (77th overall) and a fourth-round pick (100th overall) in this year's draft, a first-round pick in 2017 and a second-round pick in 2018. Cleveland also sends a fourth-round pick in 2017 to the Eagles."

That honestly isn't that much compared to the RG3 trade. Commanders traded 3 first rounders and 1 second rounder for RG3. The Eagles traded 2 1st rounders, 1 2nd rounder, 1 third rounder, and 1 4th rounder for Wentz and a 4th rounder.

Right there with you.

At least we drafted maybe the best NON-QB player in the league in Zeke.

It felt like the Cowboys and Wentz were "engaged" and Howie Roseman stole him from the Cowboys. :(

Boy the arrow sure would be pointing up for the next 10 years if we had Wentz, Oh well.

"When I look back on my life, I overpaid for my big successes every time," Jones said, via the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. "And when I tried to get a bargain, get it a little cheaper or get a better deal on it, I ended up usually either getting it and not happy I got it. Or missing it. "And I probably should have overpaid here."

That is Jerry talking about not trading up for Paxton Lynch! What about Wentz Jerry?

Howie Roseman on trading up for Wentz: "It's hard to be great if you don't take some risks."

When you like a certain QB, selling the farm is what it may take sometimes. Philly sold the farm, hasn't hurt them one bit.

The RG3 trade looks so bad because on of those picks ended up being #2, but the Eagles gave up a #3 & #4 vs a #1. It's less, but not that much less.

It may hurt them long term. When the Falcon traded up for Julio Jones they drafted possibly the best WR in the NFL, but the picks they lost really set the team back.

The Eagles will start losing players this year to free agency because of their success and they will not have much draft capital to replace them with which could set them back.

And then the Eagles got a first from the Bradford deal...
Stupid Vikings

The Eagles got a 4th rounder back from the Browns. So it was a third rounder instead of a 1st rounder. Huge difference. They also got a 1st and 4th rounder in the Sam Bradford trade. So overall it was excellent for the Eagles.

IMO, you have to look at the draft like this. I'll get 2 maybe 3 players every year, and sometimes it'll be 2. The rest of the draft is a crap shoot. So if I were to, let's say give up my 2nd/3rd/ both 4ths, and next years 1st including swapping my first this year, what exactly am I losing if I'm gaining my most important piece of my franchise, my QB. What is the ultimate price I'd be willing to pay for Drew Brees? What's the ultimate price I'd be willing to pay for Ben Roethlisberger or a top-tier QB? Once you have that in place, the sky is the limit.

What does it matter to have a Peters on your team, or a super offensive line, or a dominant WR if you don't have the QB or the Coach in place? We had Ware on our team, with Witten & Dez Bryant, and DeMarco Murray, and we still couldn't win a title with those guys. If you don't have a QB on your team with skins on the wall, with championship pedigree, then nothing else is worth it.

So next season, we have to pray that Dak comes out of it. If he does, it's a dream come true. If he doesn't, then it's already set us back another 3 years. Every time your QB doesn't work out, it sets your franchise back more and more and more. So what Philly did was invest in their future. If they lose people, just get some more people in their place. It's easier to build around a star QB, then to build around anything else on a football team. And I'm not saying that Wentz is the "end all to be all" QB, but if you go after a franchise QB with everything you have, then do it again, and again , and again until you find the one.

They also got a 1st and 4th rounder in the Sam Bradford trade. So overall it was excellent for the Eagles.

What they did or didn't get for Sam Bradford has nothing to do with what they gave up for Wentz. I do agree that it worked out great, I just don't see it as a huge difference.
