I saw a link to this a few weeks ago, I thought it was here but maybe not. I listened to it twice, getting a good laugh, thinking "that's classic, I gotta try that first chance I get."
I rarely get those types of telemarketing calls, but ironically, that afternoon my mom was over visiting, and the phone rang. The person on the other end, a youngish sounding girl, asked, "Hello, may I speak to Mr or Mrs ____?". I instantly knew I had my mark.
I went right into the script, trying to not get it verbatim, but just trying to remember the bullet points and improvising the best I could.
To make a long/short, I kept the gal on for roughly 3-4 mins, including a 20 second period where I put her on hold while I "ran her name through the DNS/FBI database". She finally hung up after I asked to hold a second time while I contacted the PD in her area, to see if they had a cruiser in her vicinity, that could come by and "get some more information".
The hardest part of the whole thing was not cracking up at my oblivious mom's opened-mouthed, shocked face, as she sat across the room listening to this whole exchange. Ahhhh, good times!
