Did anyone get a good look at him? I thought our defense as a whole played decent. It's hard to tell because we played the Raiders with a rookie QB. The entire team played completely differently in the 2nd half. Did anyone get a good look at Wilber? Do you think he's here to stay as our starting SOLB or is he back to the bench when Durant comes back?

I don't know his stat line but I know he was in on several big plays. I saw him in the back field a lot. Without any film review I have to say the guy was real solid .

I saw him make some good plays and I didn't notice any significant bad plays from him. I was impressed with him last week.

I'm curious to see if he continues to get playing time when Lee comes back, or if Sims/Durant get the SLB snaps.

Even if he rotates with Durant after this game, you have to think he will challenge for a starting spot next season. That's good news and a lot more than I expected from him at DE, for sure. I still think Holloman and Wilbur compete for the starting job in camp next year.

Broadus said he played a good game. Hopefully Holloman can stay healthy so we can finally release Sims. Durant and Wilbur can rotate at SLB. Holloman and Lemon can be the other backups.

sims suuuucccckkkk. Talk about terrible angles. One of the touchdown runs he went into the wrong whole and the running back easily went wide for the untouched touchdown. He got in (selvie) way too during the play because he guess wronged and tried to recover and ended up getting in selvie(i think) way. He just guess the wrong hole way too much. Im waiting for a big game from him but I come away unimpressed.

Made a couple big plays in the backfield, and if I recall correctly, recovered the McGloin fumble which led to our first TD. He's one of those guys who seems to be at the right place at the right time.

It seems he played a good game. I remember seeing him run a RB out of bounds for no gain and also recover a fumble!

Has Kyle Wilber found a new home at linebacker?
Broaddus
: You have to give Wilber a ton of credit for the way he has played these last two weeks. For a guy that was drafted to play in a different scheme, he has made these coaches look smart by playing him at that Sam linebacker. I was not sure how he would be able to make that adjustment after watching him play as a strong side defensive end in this 4 - 3.
I didn't [think] he was nearly strong enough or have the power to hang in there. I liked him on the weak side rushing the passer off the edge and we even saw that in the Commanders game earlier in the season. I had my concerns in this game against the Raiders where he was going to have to take on blocks at the point of attack and shed but for the second straight week, he was able to hang in there and not allow the ball to his side which was what I thought was a key to the game.
For Wilber he looks very natural playing the position but more importantly, he looks like a confident player. He was in on four tackles, a big fumble recovery that led to a DeMarco Murray score and a pressure of Matt McGloin. It will interesting to see how these defensive coaches handle to the playing time with Justin Durant most likely back against the Bears in 11 days. Regardless, Kyle Wilber is giving this defense his best and there was a time where we were not sure where that was going to be.

I do think he could end up supplanting Durant. Seems to bring more playmaking ability to the position, and he's really just now learning it.

Durant hasn't played poorly, though, and Dallas might be more comfortable with him not making mistakes. Of course, based on how this defense has done this season, the coaches also might see the need to shake it up by keeping Wilber in the lineup.

Looks much better as the SAM, very stout and seems to understand the position well.

The fumble recovery was a huge heads-up play. Reportedly, Kiffin and Marinelli really like him. I won't be surprised to see him having earned some starting reps even with Durant back in the lineup next week. If nothing else, the competition at spots like SLB, S--and, now, indirectly, RB--is going to serve this team well over the last quarter of the season. I want to get Lee and Claiborne back asap, too. We'll be as close to full strength as we've been all season when that happens.

JMO but he is getting better with actual playing time. How this all plays out before the season opener next year is a SWAG.

From earlier today:

It isn’t uncommon for a player to play multiple positions in his career on the defensive side of the ball. But when it happens three or more times in the first two seasons of a players career, often fans will label said player a tweener , or worse, a bust. Up until Sunday, that was the opinion I had on Kyle Wilber. Wilber has bounced around between being a 3-4 pass rushing linebacker and a 4-3 defensive end, and never seemed comfortable doing either.

But when the team announced last week that due to injuries, Kyle Wilber would be starting at strong-side linebacker, my ears perked up for a few different reasons. The first being, Wilber struggled against the run when he was matched up against tackles, but seemed to thrive when he played against tight ends. He can also beat tight ends fairly easily when asked to rush the passer. And with today’s NFL being more focused around getting to the quarterback, it’s never a bad idea to get more pass rushers on the field if they can hold up against the run. We have seen multiple 4-3 teams take a defensive end and put him at linebacker to give them more available rushers on any given play. Below is a chart with just a few players that have made the switch to linebacker recently.

Before you say, “Well Marcus, those are all much better players than Kyle Wilber,” let me say this; I agree with you. But Sunday was the best I have ever seen Wilber play and he just learned how to play the position in less than a week. So let’s examine some of the game film to show how he was effective against the Giants.

The following GIF was a huge play in the game. The Giants are ready to score, with the ball on the 5 yard line on second down.

The Giants are running a simple power run to the weak-side of the field. The hope is that the running back will be able to read his blocks and power through the Cowboys linebackers for the score. But instead, Wilber reads this play perfectly. He recognizes the play, avoids the blocker, and makes the play in the backfield for a six yard loss. A perfectly executed play by Wilber.

On another play here that I highlighted, you can see that Wilber still is learning the position.

Wilber takes a false step and fails to recognize the play correctly at first. But because he is a talented athlete, he makes up for the missed step and seals the edge. He follows up with the tackle, but against better teams this could potentially be a bigger play. Wilber is learning, so there will be rough spots. But the hope is that he can counter his mistakes by using his athleticism.

The Thanksgiving game against the Raiders will be a big test for Kyle Wilber. The Raiders are expected to run the ball often against Dallas and it will be interesting to see how Wilber fares in his second game at linebacker. Wilber can be an extra pass rusher on the field for the team, so don’t be surprised if he blitzes more throughout the season. Wilber was a talented player coming out of Wake Forrest, it will be interesting to see how the transition goes from defensive end to linebacker.

Anything that gets us more pass rush, I'm in favor of.
