How will Dallas fix this fundamental flaw in the defense?

It seems like teams can easily exploit this defense through screens, swing passes, and passes in the flat. Jags did this; the Giants were able to easily do this in both games. The Saints thrived on this. It's already week 14. This has to be the primary concern for the defense.

...pas rusher other than Ware. Keeping Ware in zone coverage every so often while getting effective pash rush from another position will make the teams think twice about how easy it is to get playmakers out on the edge.

Ware matches up well against skilled offensive players out in space. Our inside LBs seem to have problems covering the areas vacated by the OLBs.

Well, gotta admit Brees is so bright and accurate that he can kill a team underneath...I don't know if Vick is going to be able to exploit that particular weakness...but you are right - it's a fundamental flaw that has to be corrected.

First and foremost, somebody has to step up and become the other pass rusher.

Second, we have the personel to play 34 or 43. We probably need to start mixing this up much more. If we ran a 43 more often, I think you would find that the effect would be more turn overs in our favor.

Third, we must stay balanced offensively. They key to winning in the NFL is do it to them before they can do it to you. You must make the other team abandon there game plan before you do. Balance is the key to that. If we stay balanced offensively, we can score on anybody. Simple as that.

Lastly, and this is really the most important one. Take care of the ball. Don't turn it over. Statistically speaking, if we can just do this one thing, we stand a very good chance of winning out the rest of our schedule.

It's the reason that the smart 3-4 coordinators went away from the vanilla 3-4 with a majority of pressure coming from the 3 down linemen and one OLB to the zone blitzing schemes of people like Lebeau. Spears and/or Canty occasionally dropping into the flat vacated by the OLB that goes would lead to enough unpredictibility.

The other option is to widen the ILBs as San Diego does at times but the problem then becomes the offense running right up the middle. Ferguson's a nice player but cannot dominate the nose with enough consistency to allow Dallas to do this full time.

you can't keep switching defensive philosophies. they've only been in this for 2 years, they basically have no veterans. it will take another 3-4 years to get good.

teams that have no system are doomed. they need to stick with the 3-4
