How will this playoff game change the Cowboys course in history?

This season is looking like the beginning of another championship era in Cowboys history .

Will this season be a historical run by our Rookie sensations which has never been achieved in NFL history?

Or will it be our first frustration of this era. Cowboys history has written two different stories in reaching our goals . One was losing some championship games before finally winning.

The last championship era won in its second chance in the playoffs and it's first chance in the Title game.

I'm a history buff so it's very interesting to watch the history unfold for this very exciting and upcoming team.

While we are always chasing our own history we are going up against our competitors history which they and he are chasing . Two forces meeting . Two teams which could change theirs, their teams and NFL history.

Much more at stake than just a playoff game . Our history could be at stake . The kind of stuff the playoffs produce.

These two team have a LONG history of blocking one another from achieving greatness.

In the 1960s twice the Lombardi Packers beat the Cowboys for the NFC title - the Cowboys would have to wait to the 1970s to start collecting their titles.

In the 1990s the Cowboys were the Packer's bogeymen -- beating 3 or years in the playoffs and stopping a very good Packer team from what probably would have been another 1-2 titles

On the way to the Packers 2010 Superbowl victory the Packers stomped the Cowboys so bad in their regular season game that Wade was thrown out and JG got his head coaching gig.

The Cowboys 2014 team was good enough to win it all, only to be repelled by a one-legged Aaron Rodgers, an untimely Murray fumble, and the referees.

Now the teams are tied 17-17 in their all time series (which is fitting isn't it).

I believe the Cowboys are ascending and the Packers descending. By all rights this Cowboys club is a year too early to be a Superbowl contender -- there is 'supposed' to be some heartbreak as part of the natural NFL process before you climb the mountain. I think the Cowboys are going to turn that concept upside starting tomorrow when they handily beat the Packers.

I don't think the 2014 team was good enough to win the Super Bowl.
As for heart break, the entire 2015 season was our heart break as was 20 years of Super Bowl absence. We've MORE than paid our dues.

If this win leads to a championship run, and the Cowboys go on to have a really great run over the next handful of years with their youth it could be the cataylist for a major change in the teams history.

We won't know that for a long time though.

The only significant way to chance the Cowboys history at this point is to win it all, otherwise it is just more of the same falling short of the main goal.

I feel it's a really pivitol game for our future because we will see what we have in Garrett as a coach. Here's my take on this situation and why I think it's important for our future, legacy, and historical significance. I think Romo is all that. I've been saying it for years and I've been a little bitter that Jerry kept Garrett and even referred to him as "a coach in training". I always thought that Garrett without Romo would fail. So this season blew that out of the water, or did it? If we win tomorrow I feel it will be a ctaclyst for the next 3-5 years and possibly the next decade or so. I could see a situation of Brady/belicheck with Dak/Garrett. But on paper we clearly have the better team. If we lose tomorrow and then I'm worried that it could be the sign of mediocrity but with a different franchise QB.

So in a nutshell. This playoff push will answer some questions for me. Was Jerry right in keeping Garrett and developing him as a coach. And was Garrett's development as a coach holding the Romo and the team back. Or was Romo keeping Garrett's job for him by carrying the team and those 8-8 seasons and playoff misery was Romo over performing in spite of the coaching deficiencies. Or did Jerry do the right thing and bring along a stud coach and put up with his mistakes and now Garrett has put together the team he wants (at least offensively) and Garrett's long term plan for the team is paying off now just as we get a gifted Dak Prescott. So tomorrow will go a long way to answer the following questions for me:
1.Was Romo holding Garrett back or was Garrett holding Romo back?
2. Is Garrett a legit head coach or not?
3. Is Jerry a lot smarter than we give him credit for by holding onto Garrett through the rough years?
4. Is Garrett done being "trained" and has he arrived and can coach with the big boys in the league.

What I am not looking for tomorrow is whether or not Dak is a franchise QB. I already know that answer and it yes.

Here's my pregame answers to my questions.
1. both
2. yes
3. maybe, we'll see tomorrow
4. again, maybe, we'll see tomorrow

A win and an appearance in the NFCCG this year will mean Dallas is early on its time frame with these rookies and young team. I would have expected this next year if Dallas had not made the playoffs but showed great improvement this year with Dak and Zeke starting. By no means should a loss today mean that it is same old, same old. This team just started to learn how to win consistently this year with that record 11 game winning streak.

This game, win or lose, is the start of a SB contending team for the next decade. Atl, Pitt, NY, GB and NE can't say that. Their window is the size of a bathroom window, ours is a floor to ceiling window in a loft. A win will only move up the championship talk in Dallas, and just think when Jaylon, Tapper and another draft will bring in some talent on defense. In the famous words of
the late Freddy Prinze, "LOOOOOKINGGG GOOOOOODD." :flagwave:

We won't know regardless of win or lose tomorrow.

They could lose and still be dominant the next few years.

They could win and regress next year.

I'd like to see us consistently put together 12 win seasons before I can even say the word dynasty.. till then we're like the Panthers, Atlanta, Kc, Cincy.. up one year down the next.

Garrett became a better head coach when he/Jerry finally decided to hire good coordinators and then let Linehan call the plays.

None of that helped last season...neither did the OL.

Players have to execute, but I think Garrett's philosophy and emphasis on TEAM is all over this Cowboys team, starting with how they all, players and coaches, reacted to Romo's loss, Dez's loss early in season, etc.

This team makes no excuses, just plays for each other.

One thing I will admit about Garret and his coaching is that I like how the team is family focused. The team is like a family. Also the way the team takes it one play at a time and control what they can control. That's good coaching.

Read the same thing in '92 before we won 3 or 4 Super Bowls.

Get ready to add to the trophy case Cowboys fans.

Once with Wade Phillips and once with Jason Garrett, the team has missed an opportunity for destiny...that shouldn't happen now.

This time, turnovers and penalty shortened field positions are my only worries for Sunday. Green Bay isn't my worry...

I think you will be able to label it as the beginning of the beginning - win or lose.
