How would you improve the NFL?

If I could do one thing I would expand it to a 18 game season with two bye weeks for a team, one in weeks 1-10 one in weeks 1-20.

This would increase the length of the regular season by 3 weeks, 2 more games each team, and a extra week of rest. I would also not count the first game of the season, and the last game of the season towards "Season Statistics" to prevent the unfair advantage players who are playing 18 game seasons vs those who played 16 or 14.

First, I would undo all the crap that Roger Goodell has done like moving the Pro Bowl. Second, I would try and get some changes into the rules so that the referees don't have to make so many judgement calls. PI, roughing and now even IG are all judgement calls and are constantly abused and miscalled. Third, I would give more rights to defenses to play against recievers and hit quarterbacks. No more of this breath on a player and you get a PI or roughing call.

-I would definitely moved the Pro Bowl back to Hawai and have it played the week after the super bowl.

-I would make officiating a full time job.

-I would put the draft before Free Agency and put a standard contract in every draft slot to prevent over paying for players like Jamarcus Russal. That would also get rid of player hold outs. Agents would be pissed but o well.

-18 week season does seem like a good thing but there would definitely have to be bigger rosters and an extra bye week.

If there was one thing I could change, the game would be entirely regulated by cameras and the rules would be called as they are written by those with proper views via cameras. So there would be no more on-field officiating at all.

I would try and keep a lot of the things in the game the way they are. I'm a believer in 'if it's not broke, don't fix it' and the amount of money the teams and players are making, it's certainly not broke.

But there are things that could use some touch up work and maintainance.

1. I would stay away from the 18 game season (and really the 4 game preseason for that matter). Why? I think it increases the chances of injury before the playoffs, it disturbs statistical records, we have an economy that is struggling now, the last thing we need to do is gouge more money from the fans, and from an ethical standpoint the players should get paid more because they are working more. Plus, I don't like the idea of having to expand the weekly lineup to Thursday and Saturday games for several reasons, especially since MNF isn't exactly killing in the ratings.

2. Improve the refereeing. I believe they need better training, they need better recruitment of refs, they need more refs on the field and they need harsher 'penalties' for poor refereeing along with bigger 'rewards' for good refereeing. What's completely sad about the referees is that so many of them do not know the rule book. That's refereeing 101.

3. Get rid of the commercial pattern when a team scores a TD and kicks the PAT, go to commercial, then they do the kickoff, then they go back to commercial. Uncecessary and it makes the league look like a bunch of desperate people who take advantage of the fans.

4. Get rid of the PSL's. I know teams have them, including Dallas, but I really think it makes the league look poorly. The conduct policy is set in place to protect the league's image...things like PSL's certainly do not help with the league's image. I wish Goodell would understand that.

5. Rookie cap on how much they can make. It's getting out of hand. A team that has to pay a high draft pick a boatload of money gets stymied if the rookie doesn't fully live up to expectations.

6. Re-do the revenue sharing agreement. I think there should be revenue sharing to a degree, but I think too many of the top value teams wind up giving too much money to teams who simply do not market their team as well or as aggressively. Forget Dallas, the Packers shouldn't completely subsidize the Bills or the Bengals, both of which are in far bigger cities than Green Bay.

7. For the love of all that his holy, change the replay system to the college system. Not hard to do and the college replay system is far, far, far more effective and sensible.

8. Get rid of Goodell. He's a lousy commissioner and in a short time frame we've seen his continue to take away team's 'home games' by moving games to Europe, where the NFL still isn't all that popular. We saw the entire Belichick Spygate scandal unfold and the office HELPED with the coverup. He's lied to Congress and then he wanted Congress to take the State's Supreme Court's right to rule on NFL matters...basically claiming that Supreme Court judges would have a 'bias' when it comes to their rulings and their favorite NFL team. Ridiculous.

The fact is he'll be around for 20 years and as bad as he is, we really haven't seen his decisions come into full effect because he's only been the commish since 2007. I shudder to think what it will be like in 5 years.

Move the Pro bowl back to after the SB and keep it in Hawaii

No more overseas game during the reg season

Try and push both Owners and Players union to a new CBA

Reduce Pre Season ticket prices

Full time officials that spend the offseason getting better.

Rookie salary cap.

No pro bowl at all just name the teams like the colleges do.

Delete one preseason game.

increase the roster from 53 to 60 with 53 active.

Cut down on commercials like after scores. Only one commercial period allowed there. Not a commercial then PAT then commercial then Kick off then commercial. Instead score then show PAT then have commercials then have kickoff followed by plays.

Rookie cap

Full time refs

Keep the number of games where they are unless you want to watch the SB in March

Don't allow fantasy football and video games to use real players because it messes up fans perception of the game. (I'm a FF nut btw)

Move the draft back to just Sat and Sun

Make every play reviewable

NEVER change the OT rules....college OT blow chunks

That would be where I'd start

A small one, but have all 53 players active on game day.

I agree. Why have a 53 man roster if you can't use them? Teams pay money to these guys just as well and they are members of the team.

The Draft

There are seven rounds in the draft. There are seven days in the week. I would have one round per night starting on Monday night, until the draft completed the following Sunday.

The Schedule

More is better. The NBA has 82 games. MLB has 162(ish). The NFL is more popular than both those sports combined. BUT the game is more physical, and you realistically can only have a team play one game a week. The good news is there are 52 weeks in a year. We already know the draft will take up one week, so we now have 51. Figure the playoffs and Super Bowl take up 5 weeks, and we now have 46 weeks. I think a 2 week off season is more than sufficient. I propose a 44 week schedule, with teams having 4 bye weeks. Each team will play 40 NFL games per season. Due to the virtual year round schedule, there would be no need for training camps or pre-season. More is better.

Overseas Expansion

We need to stop being selfish and depriving the rest of the world from our NFL. The NFL will play no less than 30 games over seas throughout the season. This would work wonders in the way of bringing about World Peace. Do you honestly think the Taliban would attack our troops when they could go watch the Chiefs vs. Jets in the heart of Iran? Also, if the NFL had a game down in Haiti right now, then we could bring extra Gatorade to help the natives.

Rosters Expansion

Due to the increased work load, I think it is neccessary to allow teams to carry an extra one or two players into the season. Lets allow teams to have 55 roster spots available. 53 is such a random number anyway, right? But, we will also allow all 55 to be active on game day. The 45 active makes no sense to begin with.

Affirmative Action

Teams will have to work out at least one white wide receiver, running back, cornerback, or linebacker prior to signing a player from the aforementioned positions in free agency.

With out a shadow of a doubt. They kill innocent civilians for Petes sake. Yet a group of grown men showing off the things they hate about America is supposta just walk around free and no harm done?

If the "white guy" isn't as qualified why should he be brought in? The Rooney (believe thats how its spelled) Rule has done more harm then it has good. Now teams will bring in a "colored" coach just to feed the league some bs. L. Frazier of the Vikings will be a far better coach then Carroll will be in the NFL, the Seahawks are morons.

I'm sorry, but that is the most absurd thing I've ever heard in my life. A two week offseason? What is this **** Germany? They aren't indentured servants. This has to be a joke right? This post was a joke? Please tell me it was a joke...
