FENNVILLE, Michigan (AP)—One moment: a perfect shot to end a perfect season. The star player, just 16, lifted off the floor in celebration. Teenagers triumphant, crowds cheering, the district playoffs ahead, the future open wide.

The next: Wes Leonard on the gym floor, his enlarged heart failing, his life fading just a few moments after his victory layup. Packed bleachers suddenly stunned by an event that made basketball seem a distant, unimportant memory.

This is absolutely horrible. RIP Wes. Prayers go out to everyone around this tragedy.

Crazy. What a way to go. I hope when I go it's halfway as cool as that. RIP dude.

Really tragic. From what I've read he was a great kid.
Also, it sounds like he may have been a better QB that he was a hoops player. Rocket arm and accurate.
Pretty amazing that he lead his football team to a state title and undefeated season and his basketball team to an undefeated regular season. Humble kid too.

Tragic.

This has happened with quite a few..and it's always sad to read and hear about.

You're right about that. His death was glorious, honorable, and full of machismo.

But I really, really, really grieve for his family and community. I mean, he was the right stuff.
