HS Kid Matches Larry Allen's 700lb Bench

Can't help but get suspicious when his personal best was 570 in 2012 and now he is at 700? I know people can make big jumps in bench/squat but once you get to heavier weights you go up a few lbs at a time, not 130 in less than a year.

He benched 670 a week ago, and now is up to 700?

It is amazing how fast you gain in the teens though even without cheating. He could be that one in a million kid who is just that strong but in todays day and age the odds of him being that kid gets slimmer and slimmer.

I can see the 130 lbs in a years time. The 30 lb jump in a weeks time is less believable.

What position does this kid play? Looking at various articles, it says he is a top football prospect. He is listed at 5'-10" and 270 lbs. Chances are he is shorter than that.

Hilarious. The guy lifted 700 lbs, and people are going to discredit it with anything. He has shorter arms, and probably a lifting vest - but he still lifted 700 pounds. Long arms definitely make bench press harder, to this guy is more built for it - but it's still 700 lbs.

People don't look at Lebron dunking and go "doesn't count...he's 6'8."

because shorter arms and a lifting vest help a LOT. So this is nowhere near as impressive as the headline would make people believe.

Dude is impressive.

But, there's something to be said about having short arms. Short arms help a lot. Technique also plays a role. Natural strength trumps all though. Still very, very impressive.

During my military/lifting days my max was 405 lbs. My weight was 185ish ~ 190ish depending if I pooped or not. My father's max was 490 at about the same weight as me in his lifting/football days. For some reason the males in my family are naturally strong. We attribute it to "mana."

Major, major advantage. I thought he didn't get it when I first saw the video because the bar hardly even moved.

I absolutely say that. I don't find anything impressive about Blake Griffin, LeBron, Dwight, or whoever dunking. They only have to get like a foot off the ground to do it.

Liftin 700 is still impressive, but with a vest and short arms, it really minimizes it, imo. There's a reason that a lot of great power lifters are short guys.

.
I have a hard time buying 30 lbs in a week too, especially for someone who has probably been bench pressing for a long time. Going up 30 lbs in a week isn't all that difficult for someone whose just starting out I don't think (I know I went from like 205 max to 260 in like 2 weeks when I was 19), but moving from 670 to 700 in a week seems almost impossible.
