Couple of questions....

Isn't Morehead St. where Phil Simms went to college?

and....

What does IIRC mean? I've browsed message boards for years, and I still haven't quite figured that one out....

If the kid is only running a 4.6 40, he probably better take that Morehead St. scholarship.

And I would like to know what IIRC means also. I usually can pick up most of the jargon after a while, but that one I can't figure out.

Yes, Simms went to MSU and IIRC means "If I Recall Correctly."

Thanks boyzmamacita, I don't think I ever would have gotten that.

4.6 is pretty good, considering the type of training you get around here is rather limited. But the guy is a workout freak. He injured himself last year and vowed to get himself in the best shape possible to try and make sure it did not happen again. Now, even with his small frame, he is built like a brick house and it's paid off for him all year.

I should also note, his stats are only in 5 games ... so he's averaging over 300 yards a game.

It's unfortunate, but he probably won't get to chase down Tyler Ebell's single season national record. A player had transferred to Matewan after his mother was murdered. He wasn't eligible to play so Matewan had to forfeit it's first 3 games, making them 1-3 instead of 4-0. If he had gotten to the playoffs, he likely could've broken that rushing mark if he stayed on this same pace.

Thats probably a bad assumption. Most men dont stop growing til in their early 20's. That doesnt mean he will grow more, but it means he could grow more. I graduated high school at 5'10", now I am 6'0". In my freshman year of college, I easily put on 20 lbs.

...he was being sarcastic.

I really hope you were also.

A guy in New Jersey rushed for 739 yards in a game in 1950. Here's parted of the AP's updated story --

------------------------------------------------------

DELBARTON, W.Va. (AP) — Paul McCoy ran for 658 yards in a high school football game and, believe it or not, may not have set a national record with his feat.

The total tops the National Federation of State High School Association's listed record of 619 yards set by Ronney Jenkins of Oxnard, Calif., in 1995. But high school records historian Doug Huff said Saturday the recognized record is 739 yards by John Giannantonio of Netcong, N.J., in 1950, against Mountain Lakes.

"The National Federation book for some reason does not include that, and I think the reason is there's a formal process for submitting those things," Huff said Saturday. "This school doesn't exist anymore. The papers recognized it. The school had a special ceremony. It's been in my records for years."

I only hope his college coach keep him at Running Back. Not many white kids get to be RB, just like most high school black QB get turned into WRs.
Regardless of the type of competition, the kid got heart.

That's unreal.

Whats even more surprising is most HS keep the clock running once you are up by 28. Are they saying he scored all the teams TD's and they got only 2 2 point conversions. Something doesn't add up 661 yds and 10 TDs, is their offense or their kicker so inept they could only convert twice after a touchdown. If I was his HS coach I would be running and hiding because that is just poor management leaving your star player in there and running the score up.

jrumann, most teams in this area don't have kickers. Almost always teams are going for 2pt conversions. I could honestly count on one hand how many teams use a kicker, besides punting and kickoffs.

High schooler breaks rushing record

DELBARTON, W.Va. (AP) - Paul McCoy rushed for a national high school-record 661 yards and scored 10 touchdowns Friday. His yardage will have to be verified before it becomes official.

McCoy, who had 25 carries in Matewan's 64-0 win over Burch, ran for 496 yards just on his touchdown runs, which covered 69, 20, 52, 56, 52, 20, 31, 84, 87 and 25 yards. The National Federation of State High School Associations lists the national record as 619 yards, set by Ronney Jenkins of Oxnard, Calif., in 1995.

McCoy's 10 touchdowns would tie him with two others for the second most nationally. The record is 12 set by Ken Pearson of Hugo, Colo., in 1930.
McCoy, who is averaging 364 yards per game, has 1,820 rushing yards and 26 touchdowns this season.

What in God's name is his coach doing giving him 25 carries in a 64-0 game??

That's kinda disgusting... at some point, you'd think they'd call off the dogs... running up the score is bush league...

Ok so thay have a guy that can sleep thru a defense and score yet their offense can only manage 2 2 point conversions.

Is the word 'defense' a dirty little word in West Virginia?

As Keith Jackson would say, "WHOA, NELLIE"!

U mean he can score from anywhere on the field 10 times, but only score 2 xtra points out of 10 from about 2 yards out. that means he has speed and no power in goalline situations

Well, it appears that Tug Valley figured him out...

In a 7-8 lose, he had only 81 yards on 19 carries on October 6th.
