High school teen who defended a blind classmate who was being beaten by a bully is SUSPENDED and kicked off football team

A California teenager who rushed to help a blind classmate being beaten up by a bully has been kicked off the football team.

The high school junior was hailed as a hero for intervening after he saw the 'visually impaired' student being repeatedly hit round the head during lunch break at Huntington Beach High School, California on Wednesday.

I read this and watched the video ( did not post because of profanity) and couldn't believe that they would kick this kid out of school and, consequently, off the team.

That is the problem with zero-tolerance policies re anything. When you have extreme policies, you end up with extreme results. Under a strict reading of the policy, the player has to be kicked off the team. If you have a zero tolerance policy, you cannot use discretion. That is why I have zero tolerance for zero tolerance.

probably better if he didn't sucker punch the other guy and merely grabbed him off I guess

I whole heartedly approve of the sucker punching in this case. The guy was punching someone who couldn't see, and got hit with a punch he couldn't see... if that's not justice I'm not sure what is.

If it left him blind as a result I guess that would be too extreme, marginally.

I don't know where it stops.

Woman getting raped?

Just tap the rapist on the shoulder and kindly ask him to stop.

Teenager comes in with an AR-15 to shoot up the school?

Please notify a teacher.

I think it gets lost on the school that the kid wasn't arrested but the bully actually was arrested. Oh, that's right...cops are bad.

Lots of gutless cowards here. From the bully to the kids watching to the kid video taping it and to the school for suspending the kid.

What are we teaching our children by expelling this kid? Don't intervene when the weak are being taken advantage of?

How wonderfully naive. Its great to be able to make magnanimous statements about proper behavior from the safety that exists at your keyboard. Some folks never heard of Mahatma Gandhi, but they sure understand Chuck Norris.

In the real world, if a handicapped kid is being attacked, do you think the words, "Please stop" will do the trick? What if that kid was your son or nephew or friend? Would it be OK for other people to just let that happen?

By the way, its spelled assault.

Violence is not always the answer but an act of violence should be responded in kind. I guarantee that bully will think twice about picking on someone due to the embarrassment that he got knocked the *** out by one punch and none of his punches even got the blind kid to the ground.

What would be fair is to put the bully on the football team.
As a running back.
Practice with the varsity.
Give him the ball. Make 100 yards and your free to go.

Zero tolerance is for those who want complete control. No real world expirence.
Sounds nice but not in practice.
