Huge make or break year for Terrence Steele

Terrence Steele's calling card has always been is run blocking, but his pass protection has to improve or he will find himself off this roster. However, he will be given every opportunity to succeed, but he may have reached his peak potential.

Last season he gave up 9 sacks and 37 pressures. He was ranked 91st out of 138 Tackles last season in pass protection. A rating of 58. Lane Johnson for example didn't give up a single sack and had a rating 88. Steele's running blocking grade was 15th. His breakout season was pretty much the same, a top 10 run blocker and a bottom half pass protector.

You can protect a Tackle with a TE chipping or staying in to block, but that affects the entire offense, especially with a LT in his developmental stage.
I think he improved substantially towards the end of the season. But I don't think Steele is going anywhere before 2026. They don't have anyone who has proven to be better. People talk about moving Guyton to the right side and shifting Tyler Smith to LT but I don't thatk that's going to happen, and I don't think Guyton has given us any reason to believe he would be any better than Steele.

And I may be mistaken, but I thought I saw a video of Parsons beating Lane Johnson for a sack last year. He had 2 sack the first time the two teams met in 2024. Maybe it was 2023?

I agree, he isn't going anywhere this season and will be given every opportunity to succeed.

Those were Lane Johnson's stats I read online.

I’m a Texas Tech season ticket holder and have watched Terance Steele play since his freshman year there in 2015. He blocked two seasons for Pat Mahomes in the 2015-16 seasons.

To be honest I was really surprised Steele made it in the NFL. He was never a great pass blocker and in the days when Mahomes was at Tech, they didn’t exactly run the ball that much so you didn’t see his run blocking ability much.

One thing I’ve always seen about Steele is for his size, he is very athletic and his rookie year in Dallas he surprised me how well he played immediately as an undrafted FA in 2020.

His athleticism allows me to still have some hope he can improve his pass blocking skills. I do think the team rushed him back a little after his knee injury. He was injured on Dec 11, 2022 and was back playing in 2023 early in the season. I honestly don’t believe he was ready.

I agree with you that this is a pivotal year for Steele. If he doesn’t have a better year he probably needs to be a June 1 release in 2026.
Doesn't need to become a pro bowl Tackle, just able to hold up. There were games last season that he greatly impacted the offense in a negative way, that cannot continue.

Shotty says he’s going to put the 5 best offensive lineman out there so Steele may not even start the season. He’s going to have to earn it.

Steele is an elite run blocker and will certainly be among the 5 best lineman. Richards is a quality backup that potentially can push one of the starters.
