Oh yeah - that's right. Huge GD props.

Jason Campbell's YPA for the season is 6.65.

Today, we held him to 6.44.

Way to go, D!

Also, we held the league's 8th ranked rush defense to 62 yards and 3.6 ypc, when they had been averaging 132 ypg, and 4.1 ypc. The NFC's second leading rusher gained a mere 32 yards.

This thread's gonna go over like a "Huge props to Romo" thread after the Seattle game.

We had a lot of passes thrown against us...55.

but we did ok.

5-13 on 3rd down

Only 2 TDs [ Roy and Hamlin ]

Our Corners played good [no deep stuff]

Enjoy the win.

His YPA was low because he dinked and dunked. There were very few deep passes.

That, of course, was Wade's game plan, but it'd be nice to see us prevent both deep passes and short passes.

But how do you accomplish that?

LBs playing a bit deeper? Or you jam more at the line? But then you're open to letting the WR get behind you.

With short drops, not sure the pass rush helps much either.

Either (1) have a secondary good enough not to give up deep passes without giving massive cushions, or (2) play a QB not good enough to take advantage consistently throughout the game.

This would seem impossible with how we want to get after the QB - unless we'd like to go back to dropping 8 and getting no pressure. (which we probably should have done late to protect the flats. It's not like the rush was accomplishing anything...)

Either way, we held the Skins to well below some of their season averages, and had them at 16 until a late drive when our D was gassed. We score so fast, that's inevitable. (the gassing, that is)

Yeah, the criticism of our pass defense has been a bit over blown. When you have a team like the Commanders committed to dinking and dunking down the field. On 55 attempts 300 yards is to be expected. Those saying our pass defense was the worst pass defense in the history of pass defenses don't recognize that.

We could play more man and less soft zones. But that may result in more big plays. Obviously Wade doesn't trust them to be more aggressive. But I've read/heard that this is how he's always been on defense. By and large it works, so that's fine. It can just be infuriating at times.

you're right, Wade generally likes to have his corners playing man, but he also fits his D to the personnel, which says that most of our corners are more comfortable w/ the play being kept in front of them, hence the zone and cushions

Throw in a Cason -caliber player and we may see less soft zones

That'll work as well.

But it can't hurt to add a corener in the offseason.

Lot of the frustration stems from their 3rd and long conversions to wide open receivers.

They wouldnt of had 55 pass attempts if Dallas would of stopped them a few times on 3rd and long. They completed 3 third downs of 10 or more yards. That just isnt going to get it done.

I think they had 3 on one drive alone . . . .

There had to be a couple of missed assignments . . . . And frankly said, Moss played very well as did their other receivers. Not sure if they dropped more than 1-2 passes either.

They were stoning our pass rush. Ellis and Spencer were irrelevent.

maybe less soft zone, but we'd still be playing alot of zone, Henry was talking about in the offseason, when everyone was healthy, how they were playing zone coverage this year, I look at our corners and I see

Newman: can play in any coverage
Henry: bites on double moves, ball-hawk, not that much speed, best-suited to playing zone
Reeves: on the slight side, recognition isn't great, needs to keep the play in front of him, zone
Nate Jones: technically sound, slow as molasses

our 4 corners on the depth chart, 3 are best suited to playing zone
