Dallas Shooting Claims Gorilla, Cowboys Playoff Chances
Thursday May 24th 2007, 2:41 pm
DALLAS (800lb)- Dallas Cowboys officials are miffed over how a sedated 300 lb gorilla on loan from the Dallas Zoo became enraged, attacking four fans during practice sessions before being shot to deathlater in the day. The zoo officials were on loan from the Cincinnati Bengals pre-training camp workouts.
The practice, held at Valley Ranch, was part of an unscheduled workout conducted by Cowboys Head Coach Wade Phillips in order to gauge the free agent pool currently out on work release programs. Jabari, a 13-year-old male western lowland gorilla and a former defensive end at the University of Miami, is survived by one baby gorilla and wife Margot Kidder.
Police evacuated 300 people from the Cowboys Valley Ranch complex and offered each of them tickets to a Dallas Desperadoes Arena League game as well as signed copies of Jerry Jones’ autobiography “White Men Can Pimp”.
Jabari fled from the Cowboys complex and took a bus to the Dallas Zoo, leading Jones to comment, “He had the skill set to play in the NFL, that’s for sure. And he scored better on the Wonderlic than everyone on the roster with the exception of (quarterback) Tony Romo. I don’t know many humans who know how to use the Dallas Transit System as proficiently as that ape did.”
