Found a cool article on the ownership meetings... Here is an excerpt.
Looks like the owner's meetings this week have been productive in one way for the cowboys.
The competition committee unanimously voted to remove the Roy Williams rule. Looks like the owners voted 24-3 in a late night session to accept the rule change. (apparently 5 owners were absent due to the late hour)
The owners gave differing reason's for the change. Al Davis, owner of the Raiders gave probably the most interesting reason for the rule change, "In today's NFL our players are being coddled. Fan's want to see an element of risk on the field... We are currently in a situation where we have a collective bargaining agreement. We have very few options to counteract the general pussification of the league. Players can stop us from implementing new and innovative ways to show our fans that the NFL is not a girl scout jamboree. We can't run rigorous training camps. We can't do much. Yes, this puts some high value players in more jeopardy. But, in the past, the only players that have gotten hurt have been the sort you kinda think they have had it coming to them like that Owen's kid and McNabb. So maybe it's a wash."
....
Jerry Jones was obviously excited by the vote. "Hopefully, this will bring Roy back to previous form. He no longer needs to hesitate in his tackles. I am also happy he no longer has the stigma of a rule named after him."
....
Interestingly, Andy Reid voting for the Eagles organization also approved of the measure. He could not be reached for comment. Donovan McNabb when called to comment angrily hung up.
