Hunter Luepke - what am I missing?

Good questions. It's a sad commentary on how sensitive people here have become when you repeatedly have to clarify you aren't a "hater" just because you are asking some reasonable questions.
 
I don't think we have a great Tight End squad with regard to pass protection, at least Luepke can throw a block.

He’s absolutely terrible. He can’t run and he falls down too much.
 
I generally agree with the OP. However, I’ll wait until the games start to see if they’ve created some sort of an actual role for him, or if he is here because Jerry decided he had extra pocket money after not having to pay Parsons.

I do not believe they are going to use him much at all on offense.

I hear all that .... but aren't those guys the churn guys on your roster? Not the guys you contractually make starters.

Like the OP said, I struggle to see anything he does that shouldn't be easily replaceable.

You realize that Jerry's top offer to Rico was like a million less than this though? A bona fide starter who was impacting way more plays than any FB.

Vet minimum is just over a million\year. If Hunter had gotten a contract for say 1.5 \ year, OK. But up to 7.5 for 2 years with 5 guaranteed? That is grossly out of line with other players & his production. Not the players fault ... but it's also fair for fans to question it.

I watched him line up in a right-side offset I....he hit the hole and the RB got his 1st down because of it.

Not sure how consistently viable that particular play is...but if you have RT concerns AND want somebody that can still run and catch....then he's a good option to have.
 
Luepke is just a special teamer. Nothing he gives you on offense is worth the roster spot.

He's not a bad player but he's overpaid. Basically he's Markquese Bell of the offense.
 
People are on a quest to run Luepke and Turpin off this roster and it makes no sense to me. Neither are expensive and both are very good at what they are asked to do.

"Just a special teamer". Cut all the guys that are just special teamers and who actually does that job on game day? You want Javonte Williams and Caleb Downs running down punt returners?

But you said nothing he does on offense is worth a roster spot. Who are the Cowboys getting that can play all special teams, fullback, third running back, and emergency tight end on a cheap (by 2026 standards) contract?

If the league is full of Hunter Luepke's why not just keep Hunter Luepke. That's my point.

ST players are worth roster spots.

I don't mind Luepke, I just think he is overpaid.
