Things changed dramatically for the Cowboys' receiving corps with the team's selection of Dez Bryant last weekend.

For veterans Patrick Crayton and Sam Hurd, the prospects of competing with a first-round pick at the same position was reason enough to ask for a trade. The Cowboys attempted to accomodate those requests on draft weekend, but nothing materialized. At this point the players' agents are believed to be looking for takers.

In the meantime, Hurd hasn't changed his approach. He was at Valley Ranch working out this week, and attending throwing sessions with Tony Romo and the other quarterbacks on Tuesday and Thursday.

Crayton, who had been a regular participant in the off-season program before this week, is not currently taking part in the voluntary workouts.

Veterans are not obligated to lift weights with their teammates at Valley Ranch or take the field during OTA practices. They can be fined for skipping the mandatory veteran mini-camp in late June, however.

I think we're done with Crayton and Crayton is done with us. Last year he pouted a bit by being the 3rd receiver after Austin went off. Now that we drafted Dez, which was more about RW than him, he wants to be traded. And the Cowboys are allowing it because we have KO to take his spot. This team is moving toward youthful talent and Dez, Austin and KO are all younger and have much more upside.

Hurd, on the other hand, would have been my guess to be cut. BUT IF we release or trade Crayton Hurd can still make this team, so he's smart by staying put and working. Manuel Johnson and Holley both should see this as an opportunity.

We don't know everything Crayton knows about his future so at least wait until you get all the facts before slammin the guy.

Hurd has a chance to stick but Holley shouldn't have ever been on the team and should be gone.

I don't think this is a big surprise for Crayton. The guy knows that they're likely going to move him, or cut him, cause of the Dez drafting. He's likely going to make more money they they want to give to the #4 WR who won't be doing any special teams, now that he'll likely lose the PR job to Dez, and Hurd can still make the #4 spot, or even the #5 if KO jumps him for the #4 spot, cause he'll still be on all the special teams units.

I don't blame Crayton for wanting out. He's a solid, dependable, WR who will help some other team. I've enjoyed having him wearing the star and will be sad to see him go. Very smart on Hurds part, IMO, for continuing to work hard.

I would hate for him to go. Romo and Crayton have chemistry and it always seemed when Romo was scrambling around, it was Crayton who got opened. I prayeth Roy Williams doesnt suck another year.

I agree. We've had two guys already get ripped for missing voluntary workouts, and we've seen how that turned out. Both turned up eventually instead of their absence meaning anything of significance.

All this really means is sometimes players miss workouts. It could be because of something going on with his family, some planned event, etc., or it could be because he wants out.

No reason to draw conclusions on what it means.

Did Holley do something to you? Pretty harsh for a guy that only made the practice squad.

yeah Crayton really is getting the short end of the stick on this one. If you went by production, it would be Roy on the trading block.

Yes he does. He's a big ***.

He only made it because he was on TV.

Nothing against him personally but he wouldn't have made the team without that show

I just think it's kind of embarrassing that he made the team because of a TV show.

Not even the Raiders pick players using that criteria.

38 catches for 596 yards and 7 TD's.

37 catches for 622 yards and 5 TD's.

Why is there not a training camp battle going on for the #2 WR position between Roy Williams and Patrick Crayton (Dez is #3)?

:banghead:

He didn't make the team.

He made the practice squad. There's a big difference.

It's not like he took up a roster spot.

He was getting paid to wear Dallas Cowboys stuff.

He was on the team.

PS or not, he was a Dallas Cowboy for the reason I said above.

So you can have as many players on the PS as you want?

What will some of you do when Ogletree doesn't even come close to passing Roy Williams on the depth chart? Your expectations will be shattered. I can only imagine your reaction when Roy Williams is, in fact, the starting receiver in week 1.
