Things changed dramatically for the Cowboys' receiving corps with the team's selection of Dez Bryant last weekend.
For veterans Patrick Crayton and Sam Hurd, the prospects of competing with a first-round pick at the same position was reason enough to ask for a trade. The Cowboys attempted to accomodate those requests on draft weekend, but nothing materialized. At this point the players' agents are believed to be looking for takers.
In the meantime, Hurd hasn't changed his approach. He was at Valley Ranch working out this week, and attending throwing sessions with Tony Romo and the other quarterbacks on Tuesday and Thursday.
Crayton, who had been a regular participant in the off-season program before this week, is not currently taking part in the voluntary workouts.
Veterans are not obligated to lift weights with their teammates at Valley Ranch or take the field during OTA practices. They can be fined for skipping the mandatory veteran mini-camp in late June, however.

I think we're done with Crayton and Crayton is done with us. Last year he pouted a bit by being the 3rd receiver after Austin went off. Now that we drafted Dez, which was more about RW than him, he wants to be traded. And the Cowboys are allowing it because we have KO to take his spot. This team is moving toward youthful talent and Dez, Austin and KO are all younger and have much more upside.
Hurd, on the other hand, would have been my guess to be cut. BUT IF we release or trade Crayton Hurd can still make this team, so he's smart by staying put and working. Manuel Johnson and Holley both should see this as an opportunity.
