Just took below article off the SA newspaper. Actually I understand from reading the various reports out of TC that Hurd is having a very good TC and is definitely #4 WR at this point. He's also a good ST so of he continues to look good at WR, he makes the team. Also understand Austin is again looking good & if that continues he also makes the team. As for Stabuck, the longer he is unable to get on the field, the less chance he makes the team & the more probability he is put on PUP. If he finally gets on the field & shows life, we will carry 6 WRs.
Chad Peters: Hurd's roster spot not guaranteed
Brackenridge alum Sam Hurd carved a nice niche for himself last year, excelling on special teams and providing quality depth at wide receiver for the Cowboys.
But that doesn't mean he's guaranteed a spot on this year's team. If the Cowboys decide to keep five receivers instead of six, Hurd could possibly find himself on the outside looking in.
Cowboys coach Wade Phillips declined Saturday to speculate how many receivers he might keep, saying he's just interested in keeping the best players regardless of position.
The Cowboys are crowded at receiver with Terrell Owens, Terry Glenn and Patrick Crayton all locks to make the team. Injured fourth-round pick Isaiah Stanback, a converted quarterback from Washington, also figures to be a favorite to secure a spot given his draft status, though that's far from a guarantee. He must first recover from shin splints and actually practice for the first time here at the Alamodome.
That could leave Hurd battling with Miles Austin, a standout kickoff returner, for the fifth spot if that's all the Cowboys decide to keep.
