Ireland is due to take a direct hit from Hurricane Ophelia tomorrow morning. First time in history Ireland will be hit by one. Freaky weather.

Strongest ever hurricane in east Atlantic. Ireland hasnt come within 100s of miles of a hurricane in decades.

I just saw your thread, Csirl. I sure hope you are alright. Hurricanes aint no joke. Just went through Harvey myself, a month and a half ago. Still dealing with the flood damages, and will be for the foreseable future. Can you tell me what the winds were at when it went in? After they spin out into the Atlantic, our news coverage stops. I didn't even realize Ophelia stayed together to hit land. Our coverage makes it sound like hurricanes just spin themselves out in the middle of the frigid North Atlantic, no worries, waters are too cold to trouble anyone else. I'm so sorry for yall. I wouldn't wish a hurricane or the flooding aftermath on anyone. :(

My part of the country was relatively unscathed - some trees down here and there but everything back to normal today. Hit the south and west much worse where hundreds of thousands of people are without power due to lines being down.

Government shut down the entire country for a day - everyone told to stay indoors. Probably saved a lot of lives. 3 people who ventured out were killed.

Thanks for updating. I'm glad your area was spared. But how awful for the south and west. Hopefully they will get their power restored soon. Hopefully damages can be repaired quickly. Sorry for the loss of the 3 individuals. Never good. :(

Good to hear you're ok!

So 2017 has been the most Atlantic hurricane landfalls since 2005
Ophelia was the worst storm in the UK since 1987.
I think it was still barely a hurricane at landfall, not sure. The gusts were that strong for sure.
I read somewhere that last actual named storm to hit that was this strong was Hurricane Debbie..... in 1967

Wild year in any case.
