Hypothetical Draft Scenario

Call me crazy, but it makes sense.

Has a team ever moved up in the draft and then traded down instead of using that pick? (*regardless of if it was done pre-draft, or during the draft)

Example: Berry drops for some reason, we trade up to 12, to make teams think we want Berry, and then swap places with a team a few picks after that covet him?

In other words ( Hypothetically)

Dallas trades our #27 pick, a 3rd next year, and 4th this year for the 12th pick

And then immediately trades the 12th pick to a team that covets Berry with say pick 16 or 17 and gain back a 4th round pick or so.

So we'd basically move from 27 to 12, then from 12 to 16-17( so move up 10 spots or so, and only lose a 3rd next year).

Has something like that ever happened, whether it be on a smaller degree or not?

In this scenario we could move up 10 spots with only losing a 3rd round pick and get Iupati,McClain, Thomas. Sounds like a dream come true, although maybe just a dream. I was more or less just curious if it has ever happened.

Do you really think that's all it'll take to move up 15 spots?

The picks aren't the point. The point was just a hypothetical scenario. Say it was a 2nd and a 4th as well instead. The picks don't matter b/c I'm just wondering if something remotely close to this idea has happened.

A team trades up, then trades down, but still higher then there original pick.

If you offer good compensation to Miami (27, a 2nd this year, 4th next year) or w/e they want. Then trade down a few spots and recoup that 4th round pick, you essentially moved up and it only cost you one draft pick since you swapped first rounders, broke even on the later round.

Ok. It probably did happen in the past. But when a team trades up to a spot, they'll usually overpay for that spot -- based on the point chart value. They won't match the point value. They'll actually give more for it. So I don't see it really happening that much.

In your scenario the 12th pick is worth 1200 points and the 27th is worth 680. I can just eyeball that and tell its a total rip off. It would be a good idea to try what you are explaining, but I think it's very hard to pull off.

I doubt that has ever happened. I do think a team has traded up to select a player then trade that player. I think I remember that happening before but I wouldn't take that to the bank.

Yea that is probably the closest thing to it. Just curious. It was a slow day today, had plenty of time to think lol.

I still want to pull of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th to the Commanders for their 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th before the season starts

I hope you're on to something...but I think we'd be able to get #12 without selling #27.

haha...even if I was out running the streets, I wouldn't be in any mood to chase after anything. Sobering experience being this close.

Sounds like youll be ok, its just a few months and youll get back in time for rue threads once some UDFA for another team has 5 catches in a preseason game

LOL. I needed that. Can't sleep! Thanks :)

I had many deployments and I never slept well before any of them

Yeah, there have been teams in the past whom have traded up only to eventually trade down after missing ther targeted Pick.....sure crazy is the word you are looking for...and that Conan pick is the funniest thing I saw all day.
