Hypothetical question

In 2006, the Cowboys lost three non-division games during the regular season. They lost to New Orleans (a very good team), Jacksonville (an above average team), and Detroit (a horrible team). The Cowboys were also able to beat Indianapolis (the eventual superbowl champion).

If the games didn't have playoff implications, would you rather the Cowboys beat the good teams and lose to the bad teams or win the games they should win and lose to the good teams?

Kind of a goofy question because the bottom line is winning games, regardless of who against.

And the fact is that every year a team is likely to beat someone they probably shouldn't and lose to someone they probably (or clearly) shouldn't.

But in general the preference is to win the games you should win because consistency is one of the keys to success.

I prefer they not lose at all.

I'm with Bungarian on this one but if I've got to pick one, then I'd rather we lose to the teams we're not good enough to beat and win the games we should win. The mark of a good team is to beat the teams you should. If you beat the good teams but lose to teams you shouldn't, that doesn't speak well for the coaching staff at all IMO.

The goal of a team with Superbowl aspirations is to WIN EVERY game...

You have a great grasp of the obvious, and a greater capacity for avoiding the question.

I'm down with that, if we can't win them all that is.

I'd rather lose the inferior teams

why?

because when your in the playoffs you're not playing inferior teams.

Think for a second .........

If you are good enough to be in the playoffs, then the majority of the teams you play during the regular season will be inferior ....... SO ..........'

if you lose to the inferior teams you wont make the playoffs anyway.

Depends on when your playing.

You play the good teams early, and the inferior teams late, then you would ;)

Seems that he is saying that total wins and losses don't count toward the playoffs - only whether you win the games toward the end ...........

Hard to imagine he's saying that, I know, but that's seems to be the idea.

I'm guessing that it is somehow a reference to the Cowboys late season problems in recent years, but I don't really see how it applies.
