I am all for smart cap usage, but what's the plan? *Merge*

I get not entering the fray for some of these higher priced guys. But still, there doesn't seem to be a plan other than, "hey, let's lowball guys and hope we get lucky". And even then, we don't seem to be linked to many Tier 2 guys either.

We went into the offseason knowing the defense needed help and to date, we haven't added anyone other than a broken down Rivers and seen two decent LBs bolt. We needed a pass rush and guys that should have interested us are coming off the board. The Murray thing is peculiar because we seem to not really care if he comes back given our lowball offer but then we aren't linked to any other potential replacements.

You can't fix everything in the draft if you want to make a SB run this year.

The plan Is bargain bin shopping and the draft.

We've been linked to Greg Hardy, Adrian Clayborn, Derrick Morgan at DE. Antonio Cromartie and Patrick Robinson at CB. None of those guys have signed yet with anyone.

Lots of players still out in FA that can help this team. Cowboys will find some players to improve this team.

There lots of time to bring in players to fill holes before the draft. They will be bargain 1 or 2 year deals.
The draft is how you build your core players to grow the team in the future.

So you draft a player like Bruce Carter, redshirt him, and when he starts to shine you let him walk?

Im all for spending smart in FA but letting Carter go was a mistake imo.

I know but romo only has like 2 years left. Then after romo who knows how many years until we have a decent qb to contend again.

Would like to know this answer as well. FA is not the answer but you have to keep a few of your own players and be "in" on a few guys.

Just this morning, SEA stated they are in on Wisniewski - see how this works?

Some players make the grade and some fail and it happens for every NFL team. You keep putting your chips in the middle
and taking a risk with players who might make you better.

The Cowboys are trying to position the team to function after Romo retires. They are taking the long view with Garrett.

I don't think the Cowboys have lost anyone yet they were really wanting to keep. If they lose DeMarco, it will be because he wanted more money than
they were prepared to budget for him, period.

I agree with this. I think it was stated all along by many that Carter would likely be gone and that they would try to sign durant. I remember they were having talks with durant early on and nothing materialized, then they signed that LB Rivers ? - possibly that was due to a realization that durant wanted more than they were willing to spend.

I was hopeful that they would keep sterling moore - that is the one player gone that i personally would have liked to keep.

But Parnell, Durant and Carter leaving are no suprise.

He's the most inconsistent LB in the league and was downright bad for much of the first 10-11 weeks.

Good riddance.

Will McClay has evaluated every FA out there and probably has them all ranked. The Cowboys will fill all their holes before the draft.
No need to worry. He's done a pretty good job the last couple of years finding players to fill holes and sometimes excel.

There was never a plan - just a wait and react to Murray.

In the meantime we are losing players in their 20's daily .

So, you've discussed this with the FO?

I think it's obvious - they want productive committed players who want to be Cowboys.
They have reached out to several, and probably asked for right of first refusal, i.e, "Let us know before you take that deal, and see what we have as a counter offer". They're being disciplined to this plan, not giving in to wild emotions and pi$$ing contests like many others.

Discipline in this endeavour is a good thing. It's a sign of maturity.

Doesn't appear there is one.

Oh they have a very well though out plan and they are executing it to a tee.
You may not like it and join in with many other zoners on this board but,
Dallas will field a team next year, bank it!
