I Am Shocked, So I Gotta Mock

Nice mock but there is no way I trade away #1 next year. Peterson is not worth 2 first picks. remember that in the last off season all of us thought our pick this year would be a late 1st?

my worry, JJ does exactly this sort of stuff and the team suffers.

in FA:

Huff, FS
Mid range OG that can compete with Kosier and Davis and has the potential to start day 1

#17 David Sherrod, OT or Carimi, OT

#33. Stefen Wisniewski, C, Penn State, 6'3", 300.

#40. Phil Taylor, NT

#71. Deunta Williams, S, North Carolina, 6'2", 205 or best available CB here (my preference would be this)

#109. Mark Herzlich, ILB, Boston College, 6'4", 250.

#140. Cecil Shorts, WR/KR/PR, Mount Union, 6'0", 180.

#171. Henry Hynoski, FB, Pittsburgh, 6'2", 260.

#209. Best available option/McElroy if we are not sold on McGee

I love Peterson, he's my #2 prospect after Green but I wouldn't trade a future #1 to moveup 4 slots to grab him. I'd try to move a few players. #5 is Cardinals, they need a pass rusher, Victor Butler, #9 overall pick, 3rd round pick and Orlando Scandrick may be enough.

I like the draft. It's got some nice additions to the team that I think would really help.

There is no one in this draft worth losing next years #1.

I agree 100%.

If Deion, Reggie White, Haley, Bruce Smith, Ray Lewis, etc, etc was there.

I'd give up virtually anything but next year's number one.

Also, Hos, no more JacQuizz Rogers? I think he could be our Maurice Jones-Drew.
I still want him. Just didn't fit in this Mock.

To those wondering about trading next year's #1. Yes, I would do it in order to grab Peterson. You are free to disagree, but I won't change my mind. I think Next year's #1 will be a very late round pick anyway so it is like a 2nd this year. If we can trade our 3rd this year and move up fine. It doesn't matter to me as long as we can get him.

Hos, I will go with your parameters of the thread and trade our 2012 1st to move up.

1 - CB Patrick Peterson - LSU
I am not as into him as many of you are, but as a longtime member of this site, several of you that are into him, have my trust when it comes to your football knowledge. Plus, if he can even match 75% of his hype, he will be a huge pick for us.

2 - G/T Benjamin Ijalana - Villanova
I have seen him play twice, and both times I came away impressed. He is athletic, intelligent, has strong character, and can play 4 positions on the OL. His versatility is a huge asset to have.

3 - ILB Quan Sturdivant - UNC
We need an interior guy to put next to Sean Lee for the next several years. I believe Sturdivant is the guy. He is a sure tackler and is solid in coverage.

4 - G/C John Moffitt - Wisconsin
He is yet another product from OL University. He can play all 3 interior positions and do them very well.

5 - OLB Casey Matthews - Oregon
This kid has the family pedigree. He will be a 3rd generation NFLer along with Clay Matthews Jr. While he may not have the athleticism of Clay Jr., he does have a nonstop motor and plays with heart and tenacity.

6 - DE Cedric Thornton - Southern Arkansas
A small school guy, who dominated on his level. He has the size we are looking for as a 3-4 DE. In the 6th round, he is definitely worth the gamble.

7 - FS Mark LeGree - Appalachian St.
What we need in our secondary is a ballhawk. Well LeGree has over 20 ints during his collegiate career. Here is our ballhawk.

BTW, as far as WR goes, the kid I like the most is Terrance Toliver. He has good speed, nice hands, and I love his size. He is a deep threat, as well as a huge redzone threat.

Jerry's got a horrible track record with trading away future 1st rounders. No thanks. As great as a elite playmaker that Peterson is, isn't there the ? that Peterson is a guy who is more of a fs, than a true shutdown corner? If that perception is true, no way no how imo. To trade away a future 1st rounder to move up to #5, there should be no question marks about a player taken that high.

He is a CB, never played S in college....the talk is that he can be moved to S in the NFL if teams wanted to.....but he has no experience at the position. He is a CB.

Any time a team trades away a future 1st they end up screwing the team who owns that pick by winning games

If I were to trade next year's number 1 pick, there would be only one player I'd want to do that for: Nick Fairley

That guy is damn near unstoppable. He is mean, tough, aggressive, athletic, and more than a handful for any OL. He is exactly what our defense needs (attitude wise) and I would absolutely LOVE to see what Ryan could do with him in his defense. When Ryan runs a 46 defense he could be our Dan Hampton. Warren Sapp in 4 man lines, and Bruce Smith in the base 34. Yes, I think he's going to be that good.

I know many will probably disagree with me, but I think Fairly would be a true game changer at a position (DL) that it is important to have one at. It isn't just his physical traits either... it is his attitude. Great defenders have that mad dog, hurt the other team frame of mind, and Fairley has that in spades. Ryan would put his mean streak to good use.

Having Ratliff, Ware and Spencer working up front with Fairley would enable Ryan to do whatever he wants.

One guy like that can change the entire complexion of a defense, and I think Fairley will. IMO, he will be worth whatever it would take to go up and get him.

Cecil Shorts is a hell of a name.

I would love this draft but I don't see it happening.

I think Dallas will take Cam Jordan or Tyron Smith if they stay at #9. I think, however, that they will find a trading partner and move down.

Interesting mock, I can't get behind trading a 1st though, that's rough.

The Herzlich pick really scares me. I'd love to meet the man and buy him a beer someday, but from a purely business perspective I have my reservations about picking a guy who battled a rare cancer in his early 20s.

Why? I was diagnosed with the same form of cancer at age 28. I just turned 45. Doctors do a amazing job with the treatments for cancer. Another factor is that Herzlich was a young, athletic, young man before being diagnosed, which definitely helps in dealing with cancer.

Using a 3rd on Deunta Williams is too low, in my opinion.

Broken bones are only structural injuries, not ligament or tendon injuries. Broken bones don't make you more prone to injury in the future as long as you let them fully heal, which he'll have had plenty of time to do before the season starts.

Plus, it's a sturdy bone (leg) not something more fragile like the clavicle.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a team still take him early.

Sometimes they don't always heal properly. With internal hardware and modern orthopedics that's a lot less likely to happen but it still does.

I like the draft Hos but I wouldn't give up next year's first to move up. They can get a good player at nine who will help the club. There will be 2-3 good picks there. Where I would consider moving up in using the second round pick to move up into the late first and getting an OL.

I wouldn't mind trading back into the 1st if somebody we had an eye on began to slip. We might have to trade down in the 1st, get some extra picks and package some of them to move back into the late 1st/early 2nd, though.

Tonight, much to my utter shock and awe, I learned that stadiums are built to buy Super Bowls. Even worse I learned that guys join rock bands just to nail chicks.

I kid, I kid. It's to have an excuse to wear leather.

I want to preface this draft by saying re-signing Spears, Free, Kosier, and Sensabaugh is critical. I would go after Tyson Clabo of Atlanta as a RT option in FA.

I believe that if we need to trade up to get Patrick Peterson we should. I am therefore trading our 1st round pick in 2012, which I think is going to a very late pick in the 1st so that I can keep our high 2nd this year.

#5. Patrick Peterson, CB, LSU, 6'1", 210. Terence Newman is getting old. He needs to move to FS to prolong his career. Coverage is crucial in secondaries in this day and age. This pick answers needs at 2 positions and helps the most critical problem of this team in 2010, coverage. Peterson is the best cover corner in this draft and of the last few years. He has the potential to be the best CB in the NFL in a few years.

#40. Stefen Wisniewski, C, Penn State, 6'3", 300. The Logan Mankins dreams are dead with the Patriots intending to Franchise Tag him. We absolutely have to fix the OL and interior OL is crucial. I am not going to pass on a player with his pedigree and ability. The OL needs attitude and he has that in abundance.

#71. Deunta Williams, S, North Carolina, 6'2", 205. If not for an injury he would be a 1st rounder. Roll the dice for the future. DB depth is crucial. He has too much worth to a football team to drop too far and I would not risk him being gone. So using a 3rd on him is a top price to pay.

#109. Mark Herzlich, ILB, Boston College, 6'4", 250. What can you say about a man who beats cancer? He plays from snap to whistle and he plays to win. A future line mate with Sean Lee which could be a dynamic tandem. I don't expect him to immediately take Bradie's place but I do want depth and this is a team need for sure.

#140. Cecil Shorts, WR/KR/PR, Mount Union, 6'0", 180. This pick is about working towards a slot WR for this Offense. He can also serve as the primary return man and he also has time at QB which could prove his versatility is outstanding. He has stats that simply cannot be ignored and if you worry about his level of competition he comes form the same college as Indy's Pierre Garcon.

#171. Henry Hynoski, FB, Pittsburgh, 6'2", 260. I am sick of not having a lead weapon on short yardage situations. I like Gronkowski, but I am blinded by my common alma mater with him. I prefer to have a battering ram at the goal line regardless of who the RB is. Follow this guy and you will gain the hard yards. Immediately improves this Offense to get a guy like this.

#209. Greg McElroy, QB, Alabama, 6'2", 225. I believe he is the perfect backup QB. Smart, tough, and football oriented. His Dad works for the Cowboys and he could be groomed. I always want to prepare QBs and taking one with potential late every year would not upset me at all.

Man, interesting mock. Mind If I critique?

1. Peterson - No issue, I think he will be a special player at the next level (Although) I can see him eventually as an Ed Reed level Safety more than a Champ Bailey Corner.

2. Not so sure that Wisniewski will be there in the 2nd round at that slot. People are going to get wise to him before the draft and we we sit on the sidelines he will end up as another Max Unger scenario (which really stunk).

3. Williams had a so-so Senior campaign, but I guess that can be written off to all of his troubles at UNC. He should be there at that slot unless he is a freak of nature at healing.

4. Herzlich is a good football player. We need some depth at that SAM position and he would fit the bill better than most players in this draft.

5. I would love it if he was there.

6. I love (LOVE) Hynoski!! My personal Pet Cat. Dude would be a favorite on this board for many years.

7. Not a bad grab in the 7th
