THE GUY IS NOT THAT GOOD.

He has never posted above a 80 passer rating in a season.
A 55% completion average.
His yards per pass average is a mere 6 yarsd.

Why he is getting world beater like recognition is beyond me. Sure he has put up some good numbers this year, but look at he has faced. He faced ONE good defense so far this year (Washington), and in that game he played HORRIBLE (54% comp average, 0 TD, 1 INT, and merely 200 yards passing).

Outside of that, all of the defenses he has faced have been in the bottom 1/3 of the league. The combined record of their other opponents are 1-12. 1-12.

I can't wait until lil manning and the gints start facing some real opponents. Starting in week 8, I am ready to see them fall like the team they should.

@ Pittsburgh Dallas @ Philadelphia Baltimore @ Arizona @ Washington Philadelphia @ Dallas Carolina @Minnesota

(sorry for the rant, but i am tired of hearing of this incompetent QB. You may not return to your regularly scheduled bashing  )

But you've got to admit that Eli played pretty well in the playoffs last season.

He seems to be getting more comfortable (as you'd expect, I suppose), and his team is winning.

Right now, the Giants are the team to beat in the NFL.

His team is the reigning SB champ and beat us earlier in the year...that's why. Its our own damn fault for not being able to score more then 7 on them.

hes gets most recogonition for a game where he lead his team to 17 points. Definatly below average. He had basically one good drive. His defense should get the credit of most of that.

How did their defense get so good when they were a joke at the beginning of last year?

They lost Osi and Strahan and aren't getting dominated and we had trouble with them...why? Then they lose Shockey on offense.

I really expected them to fall to the cellar this year...but they haven't...its baffling.

1-12...

The records of their opponents outside the skins.

Just wait until week 9. they are walking into the fire then.

True, but they did shut us down...and everyone they played in the playoffs including New England.

What is Spagnolo doing that is so ingenious? Their talent sucks. Johnson has more talent and knows more football then Spagnolo...in fact he raised the boy. Yet Philly is 2-3.

He's not an incompetent QB. Be fair. He's playing pretty damn good football right now. I wouldn't trade him for anyone else. He does have that pretty little Superbowl ring on his finger...

So when we played the Commanders in week 1..that wasn't a real opponent? Good to know.

All the QBs in the NFC East are good.

When you win a Superbowl, even if it's more from your defense and not him, he's going to get more and more pub. He's playing well this year, as the rest of his team is, and that's going to translate into him getting more and more credit.

As for them walking into the fire...I doubt, very seriously, that they're going to be over looking you guys.

I've wondered that also about Spagnolo.

As far as Eli, hes ok, not great but I think it helps that his receiver depth is very good and those receivers seem to catch anything thrown there way. Also the Giants RB depth is just as good.

So what your saying is you want all the over-rated hype to go to where it deserves to go...

but the fact is, he has played VERY bad defenses. Take most of the QB's in the league, and they could put up decent numbers against teams like the lions, seahawks cleveland.

When he actually did play a decent defense, he underformed, at home.

True, true. He hasn't played anything particularly great in terms of defense. The Skins game, however, wasn't really anything to do with your defense. If you're being honest, and fair, there was at least 3-4 more big play pass chances in that game, couple of them to Plax, that he just threw the ball poorly on.

Now you can say that means he's not good, maybe that's what it is. I say it's having an off night because every QB has them. Even Joe Montana was less than perfect on a few nights during his career. :p

And, no, I'm not comparing Eli to Joe Montana. Just saying.

For now it could just be the defenses he's faced. As a Cowboys fan I certainly hope that's exactly what it is and that he'll regress back to the Eli most people remember and maybe in the second half of the year the Giants will go 1-7. That would be awesome.

But I'm not about to think that's actually going to happen, or that Eli playing as good as he has been isn't more him getting better, rather than who he's facing.

When the chips are down and he has to come from behind against a good Pass D then we will find out if he really has finally turned the corner. I think he has gotten better but he is far from a top 5 QB, frankly its questionable if he is even top 10.
Rothsburger won the SB despite stinking up the place. Its interesting that a lot of pundits gave him less recognition; while Eli gets it all despite the fact that his play in the SB was pretty ordinary.

Eli gets the recognition for last years Super Bowl because of the drive to take the lead and win it.

Another bad performance later...

Lets see how he fares the rest of the season with some real competition.

Next up: A tough Pittsburgh defense.

The Giants have made the playoffs every year he's started game 1 as QB. And he won a Superbowl a few months ago. I really have a hard time understanding how anyone could believe the Giants are a bad team or Eli is a bad QB.

I never said they are a bad team, just said they haven't really been tested.

I am still not convinced that Eli is an elite (maybe even good QB in the league). He has NEVER posted above a 80 passer rating during a season (77 was his highest). He is completly inconsistent (shown by his horrible passer rating), and throws a game away way too often (Bowns game last monday ring a bell?).

While he does have a ring, he should be VERY thankful for that defense that he had. He had one good drive that whole game ( thanks to a miracle, lucky catch by David Tyree in double coverage). Just wait untill you see this next stretch of games and see the true Eli come out (which it already has against sorry opponents the last two weeks). You should be counting your blessings that you have a good run game right now, or else your offense would be compeltly anemic.
