I am willing to take a chance with this Secondary

With the trades and the new look dline, I see fans still say we need CB help. I believe yall are forgetting that any decent CB play the last few years came from the cowboys having somewhat decent dline play.

I dont care how good a CB is, if he is covering until the wr gets to the top of the route, because the line cant get any pressure, he is toast, simple as that.

Have any of you stop to think that the CBs we have now may actually play better with the couple of changes made?

I refuse to believe blande has fell off this bad. If we are getting pressure then the QB is not throwing on target all the time, CBs can cover in less time, sit on certain routes, and take better chances if they know its possible the ball will be coming out fast.

It definitely works both ways, corners have to keep the receiver covered long enough for the pass rush to have a chance to disrupt. But you're spot on no corner can cover a receiver forever and the best secondarys usually are a result of a strong dline.

I see a lot of Bland trashing, he had a bad game yesterday in particular against the comeback routes, but I still think he's a good corner. Besides QB, I think corner is the toughest position to play in the NFL and the rules greatly favor wrs.

We have one of the worst secondaries in the entire league.

There is not a single player in the group who has a good shot tonreach the pro bowl in their career, let alone be all-pro.

Bland won’t do it again. The veteran DBs are what they are and are unlikely to improve. The unproven recent draftees or UDFAs were late picks or undrafted.

There is no diamond in the rough fellas.

I’d love to be wrong but there’s simply a lack of talent in the secondary, top to bottom.

Can they he better than the worst secondary in the league? Sure, maybe we get to bottom five. Bottom ten. Bottom line, that’s not good enough

None of it matters if we continue to play 10 yards off the ball. This soft zone that Eberflus just can't seem to stop using is absolutely killing us. It's pitch and catch against us.

You can’t take a chance on them because you will lose every single time. According to analytics the two most telling areas of a team’s success are points per drive and defensive pass rating.

We’re ranked 30th in PPD and come playoff time you face the best QB’s. The secondary needs a complete overhaul.

That's probably why CeeDee Lamb ran his 4th and 4 route too deep last night. He's used to practicing against corners that sit too far back. :muttley:

those slants for 1st downs just make my eyes bleed.

We made trades with the only team with a worse defense than ours, and from one that was only marginally better. These guys didn't make a difference on their previous defenses so what makes you think they are going to help here?

Getting a good safety and replacing one of what we would have would make a huge difference.
I am thinking they tried for Minkah Fitzpatrick but Miami asked for too much, so they shifted gears and went for Quinnen Williams.

If you are referring to Logan Wilson he was not playing much for the Bengals and a lot of Cincy fans were mad and wondered why. Wilson had four picks in 2023 and while he is on the downside of his career he at least knows what gaps to fill and is decent in coverage. Should be an upgrade over watching Kenneth "Where The Frick Am I" Murray.

Getting Malik Hooker back will help.
After watching Bland struggle outside, I'd like to keep him in the Slot as much as possible, moving forward. Let Revel learn on the job the rest of the season, just don't ruin his confidence. Carson and Butler show something or be a question mark to make the team next season. Bridges and Elam STs. Reddy Stewart backup Slot CB and STs.
