Just about the only thing positive I'm willing to post today...

I agree.

The defense looks pretty good. Carter missed one big opportunity, but that didn't lose us the game. I credit some of the players on KC. They made 2 big plays on 3rd down to extend their two TD drives that were just great individual efforts by their QB.

I don't think Claiborne is a good fit for this defense, but I'm not going to rip him for that PI call. It was a bad call. They had been making terrible calls both ways with regard to defensive holding/pass interference.

All in all, the defense held it's own against a team with multiple threats. KC isn't perfect, but they definitely have all around talent with Charles, Bowe, and an underrated dual threat QB, Alex Smith. They're tough to defend, but over the course of the game, Dallas gradually took each phase out of the game.

After 2 games (small sample size) they rank 25th in the league in yards allowed and 14th in points allowed.

I believe they have the potential to be a top 10 defense if everything goes well.

I think we'll remember this defense more for its dedication and refusal to quit than for any skills and/or game changing ability.
I admire your glass is half bull sentiments but the reality is that sooner or later the offense will be the dominant force it will be and the defense will settle into an almost-adequate bunch made up mostly of journeymen players and otherwise led by Ware, Carter and Lee.

It's early yet but I am hopeful that this defense will get better. It's the offense that I have absolutely no hope for whatsoever.

I disagree. The journeyman aren't likely to keep up their level of play and there are bound to be set backs, but this isn't Rob Ryan's scheme. We're not masking anything. We're just getting after it, as you've mentioned.

Sarge, this one is on the house, drink up. But you are, with all dew respects, wrong. the defense will not get better. The offense will. I half no proof of my contention, of course, but my football smarts kick in when Jerra's do not. So I am always football smart.

I didn't say the defense will get better - I said I was hopeful. ;) The offense? Well, it's been the same thing over and over and over again for 4 years. No hope there. Thanks for the drink though ;)

Well, hopeful is good. I cannot find fault with that.
But even if the offense does not crank it up, take heart in that Romo will half good stats all year. Think of this era as the feel-good era for Romo in which he can pad his stats and be brilliant but never take us farther than 8-8 or 9-7. He is the best paid fall-on-your face QB we half ever had.

Can't disagree with anything there. ;)

You may very well end up being right sir.

However, I'm hopefull for the offense and I think they can pick it up and find a groove and become more productive as the season goes on. There's no reason they shouldn't. The O-line already appears to be better than last years and I'm confident we'll see Romo and Dez putting up big numbers. Miles should also have a better season than last year.

As for the defense, after 2 weeks I'm already infinitely more confident in this unit compared to when it was run by Rob Ryan. I know they didn't get any takeaways against the Chiefs, but the turnovers will come. Our players are already showing more of a nose for the ball than what they have in the past, and they appear to tighten up as the opponent gets closer to the end zone. Not only that, but the pressure they're getting on the QB is looking good too. Love seeing Carter and Lee getting in on some blitzes and getting their hands on the QB. This defense has a real chance to make a name for themselves this year.
