Losing Dez was a huge blow. Losing Romo is an even bigger blow. A lot of people think the season is over and I understand why. Romo is the most important player on this team. One of the best if not the best quarterbacks in the NFL. Should've won MVP last season. Dez is argurably the most dominant wide receiver in the game.
So how is that I'm crazy enough to think the Cowboys can survive without their two superstars? Well for one because of the defense. They've allowed 19 total points in two ball games. They kept us in these games when our offense was sputtering. They've been flying around. Coverage has been stout. No big plays really have been given up. Sean Lee looks like the Defensive Player of the Year. Claibourne and Carr have looked like shut down corners playing more man. Safety play has been superb. Wilcox looks much improved. Not Aton of pass rush, but down Gregory and Hardy they've still been able to make Bradford and Eli uncomfortable and make some ill advised decisions. Run defense has been great. Big guys have done a good job holding the line. Our linebackers have been great playing side to side line and not allowing themselves to get bent inside. We've gotten turnovers as well. They'll only get better when Hardy, Gregory, and McClain get back. Hardy is one of the best. Gregory looks like he'll be in that boat soon. McClain when he was on the field was simply one of the best Mike backers and imagine him and Lee together? My lord.
Offensively we ran the ball a lot better in the fourth quarter. Tough day for the offensive line, but the Eagles front is one of the best and I'm not sure we'll see a better one until we play Seattle. Weeden showed he can still make big plays and play mistake free football. He even showed a little mobility. He had a horrible game last year against Arizona, but let's be real. That was about a tough as game to play in for a backup. He's heard all offseason that the Cowboys are screwed if Romo goes down because he's not a quality backup. Now is his chance to prove people wrong. The guy is not a scrub talent wise. He has a great arm and when he plays within the confines of the offense and doesn't try to force things he can be a capable starter in Romo's absence.
This was as ugly a game as the Cowboys have played in some time, but they grinded it out. They fought like they always do. They don't give up. They have no quit in them. So many teams lose their quarterback and fold like a chair. What did the Cowboys do? They went out and won a game nobody gave them a chance in even with Romo. I'm a believer in this team. Then there's coach Garrett. This guy is phenomal. He's not gonna let this team feel sorry for themselves. He's gonna preach what he always preaches. FIGHT. Keep believing. Keep fighting for your teammates. That's exactly what they'll do.
I am a believer.
