I have to admit, I have never been in this position as a fan. I have never had such an emotional gut reaction to a player and here's why.

Tony Romo is me.

He's is the closest thing to me as I will ever get as a Dallas Cowboys QB. He went to a small school, he was undrafted, he sat on the bench and was nothing more than the third name in the program with a QB next to his name. He wasn't Roger Staubach, Heisman Trophy winner and Captain America and he wasn't Troy Aikman who came out of the womb to play the position. Hell, he might not have even been Quincy Carter.

And then in a four week span he became the saviour of America's Team when we all were starving for one and what did he do? He acted like I think I would.

He was Tony, the guy who buys a homeless man a movie ticket, the guy who stops and changes a tire for people on an expressway, the guy who plays pick-up basketball and soccer games. He's Tony who can play golf well enough to try and qualify for a U.S. Open because he can. He dated hot chicks and took a weekend in Cabo on an off week. He smiled a lot because even he couldn't believe where he was. It's what I would do.

And I'm all in on him. I can't help it, I want him to win not only for the team that has been in the fabric of my life for 40 years I want him to win for Tony, because I think I know him - he's me.

I never thought about this with Roger, or Troy. They were supposed to do what they did. I've had the opportunity to meet both of them they were great guys, but I just knew they were different. A couple years ago I met Tony. He bought us a round of drinks and talked for an hour and not even about football. It's what I would've done.

I have no doubt he has the athletic ability and fearless confidence to win a Super Bowl, but he hasn't...yet. But I believe he can.

I was mad as hell last night, just like all of you and it was gut wrenching...again. But if he was traded tomorrow I would follow every snap of his career. I'm invested in Tony Romo because I think I would be him if I were him.

I know winning is the bottom line. I get that and I will curse and wonder what the hell is he doing at times, and other times he will bring me off the couch and make me jump around like a little kid. Those moments are coming, it's a long season. But--

I'm all in on Tony Romo until the day he retires. :starspin

Interesting. So do you have much experience passing a football? College football maybe? I'd call up JJ asap, you may very well be his successor.

Thats the same problem I am having. I love his story. You cant help but root for him.

HOWEVER, do you still trust him with the ball in his hands?
Im losing the faith. He kept feeding us how he was in phase two of his career, but he still making the mistakes of one who is about to enter phase 1. (holding ball like a loaf of bread, throwing to double coverage)

Hes very inconsistent. Next week he will probably have a great game that will have people calling out those who doubt him. But the following week, he will follow up a great week with a dud. rinse. repeat.

He's not me and I'm not him but I'm dang sure pulling for him. He's a heck of a player and I'll root for him til he hangs them up. Where ever that may be.

Point taken.

Probably should have qualified my connection as more of how I would act if I were him as compared to how I could play as compared to him. College baseball is as far as I got.

But if Jerry wants to give me a call. :laugh2:

People forget that Roger and Troy made their share of mistakes. I get very frustrated with Tony's mistakes. As much as anyone I suspect. I have to leave the room and come back later. But he's a great QB. If he doesn't win a SB then he'll go down as another Danny White. If he does he'll join the big boys IMO.

I am tired of all the whinging and hand wringing.

I am right there with you. And it took me time to get on Tony's bandwagon too. I wasn't a big believer of him till his 2009 season.

But its not this game that bothered me as much as his Int against San Diego in Pre-season, that shook my confidence most. I thought he was beyond that rookie dumb mistakes.

And yesterday I didn't feel the confidence in Tony as normally I would on close games, that he would pull something out. And sure enough he didn't.

But at the same time, this dumping on Romo gets way too out of hand. We can all agree his really played bad when it counted most, heck really, its not really when it counted most either. If you really see it, in the verge of putting the game away, he had that turnover, which really started the snowball effect.

I did bit of research on close games, by both Rodgers and Romo, and someone else did more digging there, and Romo was better than Rodgers in that category, not overhelmingly better, but better nevertheless.

But now that Rodgers has won SB, everyone forgets how he was almost beat by Philly, except for dumb decision by Vick in playoffs, and he wouldn't have been the toast of the town he is right now.

But then, to the victor goes the spoils. Right now, Romo is only proving his doubters right. Onto next game.

I don't think we should separate the man from the quarterback either. Why should we?

It's not an enjoyable to cheer for a jerk. I don't want a rapist, ex-con, or psycho playing quarterback for my team.

I want a guy who is a genuine good person. I want the guy who loves his job and smiles all while competing and wanting to be the best he can be. Give me the guy who adores his father and still makes time to play golf with him when he can. I like the guy who the night before he gets married will go out and play hide and seek because it's more him than going to a strip joint and blowing thousands of dollars.

Best of all, he's a pretty damned good quarterback too!

I can't even fathom jumping off of Tony Romo's bandwagon after two bad decisions cost us a road win against a good team.

The willingness to give up on really good players for such poor reasons is really befuddling. What causes this sort of fandom, anyway? I don't get it at all.

Great post! I feel exactly the same way! I know Tony makes heart-wrenching mistakes sometimes, but so did Roger and Troy at times! Especially Roger in some of his playoff games. Yet he's a legend because the Super bowl victories erased all the bad memories. Look at Ben Ruthlessraper on Sunday. He made way more mistakes than Tony, and his mighty Steelers got blown out! It happens to all of them at times. Look at P. Manning last year when they played us! Rookie Sean Lee took two picks from him. It happens. Yet when it happens to Tony, everyone acts like that's all the man ever does is lose every game with dumb mistakes. Well I, like you will always be a fan of Tony, and I still believe he'll get us a Super bowl or two before he's done.

It's not just the 2 plays. Those 2 plays are the straw that broke the camels back. It comes from the constant defending him when he makes dumb choices. It's the same broken record. we as fans take a beating when we are always put in a position to defend him, or if we turn on the channel to get a football fix and you have jokers clowning him. It's just tiring. My text messages went off the hook last night with Romo sucks blah blah blah. Man it's just a sorry old song I am sick of listening to. He is a great guy and probably a very good friend with great morals, but he just isn't getting it done.

Meh. Toughen up, Softy :)

Tony's production doesn't really need defending. It's the team that loses games with stupid mistakes and inopportune turnovers. Tony, because he touches the ball so much, has his share of mistakes. And he blew it last night, but he's a very, very good player. The day you get sick of defending good Cowboy players is a day when you're not the fan we want you to be. You need to work at getting better, day by day. Be the best CowboyStar you can be. It's a process.

Is it even legal for me not to post in this Romo love fest? Bounce back big guy, we need you to play like you did in 2009.

I know Tony Romo, and you are no Tony Romo.

;) couldn't resist.

Maybe I'm the only one, but I'm still on the Romo bandwagon. If Eli Manning can win a Superbowl, he can, too.

This is a perfect microcosm of the DC fan experience. A guy with an IheartRomo handle asking permission to post in a Romo love fest thread. Life must be very confusing for some of you.

Unbelievably good post. Tony Romo has the class and genuineness that is simply uncommon in modern professional sports. Everyone on this board wants the same thing. For the Cowboys to win, and win big.

There is no question that what happened last night has shaken EVERYONE's confidence in Tony, and probably his own as well. It is important for everyone here to realize that we need him to not be scared the next time he makes a decision to throw the football or tuck and run with it... or to second guess himself.

He's our QB for better or worse. The ridicule that comes along with it we could do without, but really there is no PERSON I'd rather have at the helm of our team from and I will take my chances with him, and all of his flaws if it means sacrificing any and all of the kind of character that the Dallas Cowboys deserve to QB it's team on Sundays.

I don't really know (and yes I have serious doubts) if Tony can get us to the top. But if he does the cheers you will hear will be full of genuine love of our team and ESPECIALLY the QB, the kind of person he is and what he represents- the underdog with a heart of gold.

I'm all in on Tony as well. The book isn't finished yet gang. Noone with his talent is ever out of it. The plot just thickened a bit that's all. Onward.

I was very down on him yesterday...couldn't defend him today...will be back on his bandwagon on Sunday...will have to see what Monday brings. This will be the rollercoaster I ride until he wins the SB or leaves the team. But he is my starting QB with enough skills to get the job done so I will always root for him (and probably cursing along the way).
