I could see a veteran signing with us after camp

The Cowboys will pour over the list of cuts. Like they do every year and every other team does.

I would be shocked if they didn't pick up at least one player.

Of course a lot depends on who gets cut and the Cowboys will be competing with every other team.

Problem really becomes who do you cut?

It’s very possible injuries open up a spot as someone moves to the PUP or IR but as of right now I actually think it’s going to be difficult to bring in an outside FA with what they have in camp already unless we see a surprise cut like a Mazi, Schoon, or Leupke.

Lance has a guaranteed deal so they may look to keep 3 QBs, you also have the possibility of keeping 4 RBs or 4 TEs, possibly 6 WRs if they feel Turpin is more of a ST specialist. The roster math is going to be something to watch over the next couple weeks.

I’ve been pretty critical of the front office this offseason but have to admit this roster has some depth to it at several positions.
No players can be put on PUP at this point. If they had one practice, PUP cannot be in play. They have to be placed on PUP before TC starts. Then they can stay on it the first 6 weeks of the season before the 2 week practice window starts.

So what they would do, is release a few vet players, that do not qualify as being claimed off waivers, with a deal they will be brought back.
Then they can move those players to the short term IR.

They did the with Seig last year, and done it with Rush as well. Though Rush, still may be eligible for waivers claim.
But do not be surprised if the waive Rush, bring him back to the PS, then possibly promoted to the 53 eventually. If Trey becomes the back up QB though.

Third... in the spot that gave me most anxiety and still does really but they've done what they've done... they signed a guy, Albert Huggins, who was listed as ATL's 2nd string nose tackle for pretty much all of last season. That says something significant. It says they've deliberately chosen to add a competitor at that position... but not to Mazi... rather, to Justin Rogers (and Carl Rogers if you really think he's still an option, which I do not).

While that is ideal from a Cowboys POV, I'm skeptical that he'd not be plucked off of the PS by another team pretty quickly. He's likely not going to start for anyone long-term, but he's pretty ideal if you're not very confident in your #2 QB to get you through a game if not a few. The devil on my shoulder hopes a contending team loses their starter in preseason for the first 6-8 games of the season, and calls to offer a draft pick... whether for CR to start, or to just serve as insurance as the #2 (.. conventionally speaking, it's only a contending team that would deem their #2 slot important enough that they might send out a draft pick).

I could see the Cowboys trying to get to the front of the line in acquiring a RB right before cuts by offering a Day 3 draft pick. Which is kind of frustrating because we could have drafted someone this year with a Day 3 pick. But I fully expect a back brought in to upgrade the weakest position on this team in early September.
The Cowboys draft looks absolutely excellent from top to bottom.

That's what I would do. They don't need 4 picks in the 5th round. Just trade their own pick.

Yes they could have drafted one this year but they liked and targeted every day 3 pick. And it looks like they hit a home run with them. I can't fault them for following their draft board.
Excellent draft.
