The guy is slow vs Fowler and Sam Williams. I never liked him as a pick and think he is just a warm body. Why are we wasting time making him a starter and the key RDE spot to boot? Give those reps to Fowler & Williams.

I don't think he's set in stone. If he was they wouldn't have brought in Fowler and drafted Williams. Regardless, odds are there will be a lot of rotation at that position anyway. Could be that Armstrong is more the early down guy with Fowler in more in passing situations

I'm not a fan either but they rotate that spot so much it's not a big deal.

I expect Williams to see more time than anyone as the season moves on.

He plays the run well and has experience. When Williams proves he is the better overall player, then he will get the most reps. Until then, the run defending veteran gets the most 1st and/or 2nd down reps and the pass rusher rotates in on passing downs. Not rocket science.

It didn’t show up in playoffs for any of the run defenders on this team including Micah.

The Cowboys were 23rd in yards allowed per rush last season (4.5 ypc). The Niners were always going to be a bad match up.

I think he's the runs-down end in our pseudo-3-4. Run defense isn't really Fowler's strength, and it's not supposed to be Williams'. In the pseudo-3-4, we'll have DE/DPR Armstrong, 5-tech Golston/Odighizuwa/Watkins, 1-tech Bohanna/Watkins/Ridgeway, 3-tech Gallimore/Odighizuwa/Hill and DE/DPR Lawrence/Basham. Fowler or Williams may get some reps in the scheme in place of Armstrong or even Lawrence, but they will mainly be used in the nickel, which is what we will be in most of the time, especially when it is a clear passing situation. That would be some combination of Fowler/Williams, Odighizuwa/Williams, Gallimore/Hill/Lawrence and Lawrence/Williams, with maybe some Basham thrown in if he makes the team.

Assignment sound, good against the run and the coaches love him. Kinda like Noah Brown with better production.

Totally agree.

I feel the same way towards Connor McGovern and Tyler Biadasz both starting. Pure favoritism due to veteranship, yet they are not better than their younger backups.
