I don't get the "Undisclosed Draft Picks" thingy

Why is it that when a trade is announced, we know the player involved but no0t the draft picks. Why is it such a secret initially?

Just never understood that.

I never did understand the concept either unless they are haggling with another team and don't want show their cards prematurely.
