Would we really look to pay an outside free agent 20+ million to play DT for us? I can honestly say that Stephen would make up some excuse as to why we couldn't do it, but because Osa is one of our players that we drafted, we'd be willing to pay the market value for him at 20+ million. Make it make sense. Please give me your thoughts

Because our GM and son are not knowledgeable, hard working front office people who study film on players outside their organization, they favor their own players.

When they say “We like our guys”, they might as well say “These are the only guys we know anything about.”

loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool post of the morning Haze!!!!! So why not let the scouts and coaches do the work, what do they listen to word of mouth from one of their owner buddies or a buddy at the bar and say HEY Jerry that's a good move, Jerry says YES i'll do it, and does it!!!??? You can't make this stuff up man!

Bad deal IMO

You are almost there. Instead, rephrase it to, "Why not hire qualified football executives to evaluate the scouts and coaches' roster assessments and make informed, smart decisions?"

Then consider who are at the top of the front office pyramid.

Go!
Dallas every time you come in the room, I feel like I need to wash my hands thoroughly and make sure my fingers are perfectly aligned on the keyboard!!! lol

No, they would not pay an outside free agent that much money, as they showed us last year when several good DTs were available.

But, I am not convinced this story about being close to a deal with OSA is real. I think this close to free agency, Osa is going to test the waters and see what he can get. I also think he probably knows Washington is going to make him an offer higher than what Dallas can pay.

This might be good though. Maybe Jerry will be miffed about losing Osa and do something like sign Milton Williams to replace him. Williams grew up in Crowley, Texas so maybe he wants to come back to his home state and pay less income taxes to play for Dallas. Working in Washington he will pay up to 10.75% on his income, including his signing bonuses. That is potentially over $1 million. In Dallas he would pay 0.

It’s worth noting though they do have some good football minds working for them. They aren’t football people. Never have and never will be. Trading for Mingo is because their football guys they trusted told them so.

I think with Osa they have come to the realization that he may be the best DT on the market. If he and Milton Williams are the same price I’d take Osa. If Milton is cheaper by 5 mill or more….id much rather have him.

My issue with this team is what is the insistence on bringing this line back when they have sucked for you. It can’t all be Mazi’s fault because it was bad before him.

CREEPERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!! Totally agree! Like he's really not going to test the market at least, you owe it to yourself to test the market, see if you can get more, if not/similar, stay here

I agree on all accounts. I saw that story and first thing they comes to my mind is why do we have to hear they are close? Why not just sign the guy? And I know this team is terrible in how they handle contracts but Osa doesn’t fit their model of guys they sign. They usually let guys like him walk. The Anthony Hitchens and Dorance Armstrong.

They tend to keep you if you take smaller pay or a Pro Bowker with Byron Jones being the exception.

I personally don’t see them giving Osa that but certainly could be wrong.

Cowboys don’t need him to test the market. I think his price is just gonna go up. Some desperate team is gonna do it and if Jonathan Allen wants to be traded I could see Commanders doing it.

Agree. That's been on my mind too. Why not just get two players for the price of what we might get OSA for? Go get 2 Dlineman that are just as capable and productive, cheaper, younger maybe. Then we still can resign Lawson and others. Paying OSA seems too high for the production and the other needs we have.

Osa is probably going to be cheaper than any outside free agent the Cowboys would bring in and I doubt if the outside free agent would be an upgrade. Osa is top 15 3 tech with know major injury history. I believe he played in every game since his rookie season. Osa, Mazi, and two drafted rookies would upgrade our defensive line immediately.

How would you like it if they let him walk and Washington was able to sign the 7th ranked free agent on the board and we had nothing at dtackle?

I think the driving factor for paying OSA was because Quinn was going to poach him. He's a young strong buck who Dallas slightly over paid for. But that extra was to also keep him away from thier up and coming rival.
