I Don't Question Romo's Arm Strength...

I wanted to see a deep pass and we finally got the long one to TO. Correct me if I am wrong but that was about a 50 yard bullet on a rope so he probably has a good 60-70 yards in him.

Thoughts?

It wasn't on a rope.

When it comes to arm strength, you generally just want to know if he can make the basic throws. Romo can make all of them. He's looked exceptional on throws from inside the numbers of the field. The only throws he looks subpar in are deep outs, the deep fade or a deep curl route on the sideline. Still, he's been accurate enough on those passes and his decision making and quick release have made up for it so far.

JP Losman has one of the strongest arms in football. But for now, I'll take Romo over him any day of the week.

I don't think the deep ball is the way to gauge a Qb's arm strength, but the 15yd out. There was an out play in the Carolina game to start the 2nd half of play where although the pass was completed, the ball just seemed to hang in the air forever.

Maybe it was just a bad pass... I'm not sure.

And I'm not trying to be overly critical (b/c he seems to have a lot of intangibles that will allow him to succeed at this level ala Montana), but maybe the coaching staff cann maximize his game by throwing fewer out patterns.

Just a thought..

I would say ROMO can go approx 60 yds from what I saw at training camp

I think Romo’s arm is strong enough to make the throws he needs to make. I also like the fact he has a very quick release on his pass. I had some concerns about this but feel a lot better after seeing him perform over the last 2 weeks.

Looks like a rope to me... Wasn't forced and he didn't labor. He didn't arch his shoulders way back or anything like that.

What the vote rope pass or no rope pass?

The balls flight was not on a rope, he put plenty of air under the ball just as your suppose to on the long bomb. Throwing the ball on a rope has nothing to do with arching your shoulder he refers to the flight of the ball.

It's not literal it is a figure of speech. For a deep pass there was very little air. I gotta disagree the more arch the more air so if he is not arching a bunch the throw will be on a straighter line. It looked like one of Bledsoe's passes to be honest and people had n problem calling them ropes. Regardless it was a great pass that showed good arm strength.

The term itself has nothing to do with arching his back or shoulder it has to do with the flight of the ball period. The ball he threw to TO was a long bomb and had plenty of air under it, it was not thrown on a rope. I agree that Tony arm is stong enough, is it as strong as Elway or Favre I don't think so but then most guys do not have that kind of arm strenght to begin with.

I agree but you can't exclude how a QB accomplishes it is all I am saying. Weaker arm QB's will dip their shoulders to get more air under the ball. I didn't see that with Romo's pass he just let it rip.

As you said before you have to put air on deep passes and in my opinion he put very little. Did you think Bledsoe flea-flicker passes were ropes? This one was no different except in yards maybe.

I think Drew has a stronger arm than Romo, Romo no doubt has the quicker release and that makes a big differance.

There is no question Drew has a canon.

And no question Romo has the faster release. I have been impressed at how quick Romo gets the ball out

some of these routes will get better with experience. there were couple of times on the deep out when he didn't float it deep enough, i.e. the pass was too shallow.

he will get better at some of those over time...

This was a big deal in the preseason and the offseason. I have been saying for as long as I could based on watching him in warmups with henson and bledsoe/vinny that he threw the ball as well as them.

Obviously drew and vinny had stronger arms but they are much bigger guys.

Romo has the arm strength to do everything they ask him too and he is not limited in any way. You can see from watching him in warmups, he has been throwing 50 yard passes right on the money to his wr during that time.

I think his size and his arm strength became a talking point for the media and for posters, but in reality neither is an issue.

Look at some comparable quarterbacks who never had their size questioned.

Tony Romo 6"2 225

Steve Young 6"2 205
Joe Montana 6"2 195
Danny White 6"3 195
Brett Favre 6"2 222
Marc bulger 6"3 212
D. Mcnabb 6"2 240
Dan fouts 6"3 204
Jim Kelly 6"3 217

So I think his size and arm strength really need to be put to rest. He has the size and the smarts.

That throw shouldn't have been "on a rope" if I remember it correctly. He threw a perfect ball on that one.
