I don't know you yet, but I just wanted to stop here and say thank you. You are brave and smart.

Denise

Why thank you.

Truth is I am very smart but not too wise. I'm hoping to bring my wisdom score up. :)

Taking my 37 year-old self off to the 'warrior transition course'. It's kind of like basic training for guys who have been in the military before. I signed up to be a 25B (Information systems operator/analyst) so I'll be learning how to set up and troubleshoot computers and internet. I am pretty excited about it! I have been mostly a stay-at-home parent since my wife enlisted in the army back in 2001. Now that the youngest kid is in school it is time for me to get myself a career.

I leave on January 27th and will still try to post as often as I can!

Take care TASS and since you where prior service you already know what to expect give those youngens heck :stetson:

If you ever need troubleshooting help post it on the forums some of us geeks can help you out.

Odd. I thought 36 was the oldest you could enlist!. You are just about a year older than I and you're going into my field and the same time I am looking to possibly get out off! What I do goes by several names. Infrastructure Engineer, High-Availability Architect among others. I've been doing this for years and started it because I loved it every since I was a kid and got to use a computer for the first time. (TSR80)

The thing I love about it most is learning new things and working with cool new technologies. The thing I hate about it most is vendor relations, dealing with zealot people with a cause that want what they like vs what is best for the job. You would not believe how many people believe an Apple X Server is the best server to do the any job. Why? Because it's Apple! I've found only one instance when it actually is an OK solution. When you have a house full of Mac image designers and need a file storage server for them. One thing I have done is buy an Apple X-RAID server, but I wiped out any Apple software and put OpenFiler on it instead and it performed great for the job I needed it for. (Replication location for a NetApp Filer) It was cheap and did what it needed to less than half of what a second NetApp would have cost!

Anyhow, going into the Army is good to get a start. There is so much Foo to learn it's stupid and the Army will keep you on a track to learn in a specific area. So many young Foo apprentices attempt to learn bits in many different areas all at once and get overloaded and fail to properly absorb a lot of what they are going over or learn them out of order. Like learning Security before knowing (understanding) anything about what they are trying to secure! (ie Networks, Operating Systems, etc)

I have rambled. Good luck in your new adventure!

Nope...42 is the cutoff now. Lucky for me!

As to the actual job stuff, Mrs. Tass is also a info sys specialist for the army. She'll be able to square me away if I have any problems. :)
