Are you saying the likes of Justin Timberlake, Britney, and Hannah Montana can't hold a candle to CCR and Lynyrd Skynyrd? :)

I'm saying those guys aspire to be a pimple on the butt of a fly that once landed on an old half eaten corndog that a fan of CCR or LS.

So yeah, pretty much. :)

Hey, I got an iPod and a CD player in my car. My kids are growing up with CCR, Hendrix, Zep, The Doors, The Eagles, Van Halen etc...

Same here... my 8 son is learning to play the guitar now, and his playlist is all solid guitar rock from the 70s and 80s.

His favorite song: Back in Black. :D

And both he and his 5 year old sister love Skynyrd.

i enjoy both CCR and Skynard but if i need to mellow my self out and usually listen to it after a work out or playing a game of football but just as much love listening to the blistering speed of todays rock with fret breaking slides and double bass hitting pedals its just bliss to my ears

Every generation has some good stuff but most music in general sucks.

word. it seems that music goes in cycles of whats "good" too. 70's 80's seemed dominated by rock, 90's 00 was rap

It's funny... I have to admit that my 8 year old has better musical taste than I do. :p:

I have an 80s pop streak in me that I'm ashamed of myself, sometimes. He shuns all the bubblegum and new wave stuff in my music collection... if it doesn't rock, he's not much interested in it. :D

there is a ton of good music today. It is just not on radio like it used to be, thanks to corporate america.

Simply watch chuck and then download the music used in it, its outstanding. There are a ton of really really good indy rock bands.

I used to be one of the people that made comments like this, but then I opened my eyes and dug a little deeper in about 04 or so and started listening to the indy bands, and they are fantastic. Alot of the stuff that is in the indy rock scene would have been hits in the 80s because they would have been on the radio, but today they are on itunes, youtube and mtv2 at like 1 am.

Ra ra riot
Band of horses
Blitzen trapper
Your vega
Matt pond pa
bon iver
joseph arthur
okkervil river
spoon
the kooks
the shins
jet
Death cab

I could keep going but I am sure someone will pick up where I left off.

This song happens to be my favorite of last year, and the album is equally as good. They get no radio play and no attention, yet they tour all over the world and have a big fan base...

That song, imo would have been a hit single on the radio in the 80s or 90s. Today, it just isnt happening because radio basically doesnt exist.

I feel bad for kids growing up today....

In the 90s, stuff like Illmatic, Reasonable Doubt, Life After Death, were dropping.

Nothing nowadays compares to that.

Death Cab? Oh man I hate me some friggin' death cab. Whiney Ben Gibbard.

I am disturbed by the lack of Wilco and the Old 97's in this thread.

Kids today have it so well off actually. Bigger population = more artists = better chance of finding good art with exponentially improving tech. Same principle applies to photography, filmmaking, drawing, painting, porn, etc.
