I forgot just how incredibly good Dez was

After watching some Dez film I forgot just how incredibly good he was. I think he is arguably as good as anyone who ever played the position for the cowboys.
Thoughts?

Not close to Irvin/Pearson/Clarke.

He should've been, but his refusal to run routes and put in effort when the ball wasn't coming his way pushes him down the list.

He was a great contested ball receiver, probably the best in the league during his prime and he caught a lot of TDs but he’s down the list of all time great Cowboys receivers. He only had 3 great seasons and wasn’t a good route runner. He had a difficult time separating which is why he was in so many contested ball battles. He’s best remembered for a catch that didn’t count. He’s behind Irvin, Pearson, Hayes and TO on the all time Cowboys list.

Without question CeeDee because he and Dak have had great chemistry. Not so with Dak and Dez. CeeDee has had four straight 1000 yard seasons and would have had five straight had Dak not missed most of his rookie season. CeeDee has been more consistent than Dez. I didn’t include CeeDee in my first post but he’s been more consistent than Dez and a better overall receiver. When it came to contested balls and scoring TDs, Dez stands alone amongst all Cowboys receivers.

I won’t go through the entire list, but Michael Irvin is definitely number one. For me, Drew Pearson would be number two. TO over his career was a greater receiver, but he didn’t do as much for the Cowboys as Drew Pearson. We didn’t win anything with TO. Pearson was the greatest third down/clutch receiver of the 70s. He helped lead us to a championship and at least one other Super Bowl with the Hail Mary. Golden Richards didn’t put up huge numbers over his career, because it was a different era but I would put him ahead of Cole Beasley. He scored a TD in one of our Super Bowl wins and was part of several real good Cowboys teams.

In his prime Dez played faster than his 4.52, 40 time. That’s one thing he had in common with Jerry Rice who played like a 4.4 receiver on the field but timed 4.6,

He did it all, gave it all and shocked people with what he did.

He would eat their lunch with contested balls but that’s it. He was hard to bring down, however his inability to run crisp routes and separate puts him behind the Cowboys all time great receivers. Unfortunately after 3 great seasons an injury caused Dez to flame out.

I think you have Dez overrated but other than that I don’t see this as terribly controversial.

He was great here. He and Romo had great chemistry. Wasn't a great route runner, but didn't need to be one early on. Was a menace with the ball and could outjump anyone for the ball.

Outside of Megatron, he was in the 2-5 range for WR's from 12-14

Golden Richards, Butch Johnson didn't have more targets because of Pearson, Hill, Smith, Dupree,Ditka, Cosbie, Saldi. We had an embarrassment of riches at the skill positions for a long time. Richards and Johnson get my consideration as well.

No. Good to outstanding at times, but wasn't Julian Edelman. For me, he's off this list.

Miles Austin and CB should not be on this list. Butch Johnson and Golden Richards were more impactful and they did so when the team was loaded at wr. Which speaks volumes to me.
