I guess Parcells would call this a "jap" play...

The refs and the defense should have paid more attention

Yep. The QB made a motion that something was wrong with the ball therefore the refs should have blown the whistle to stop the play. Until the whistle is blown you have to play defense and follow the QB.

Somewhat related is the fake spike in the NFL. When Peyton or whomever else actually fakes the spike and then lifts his head up and throws the ball or runs while the defense stops needs to be looked at. I'm all for a QB coming up to the line and pretending he will spike it before the snap, but once it is snapped runs a play. I don't like when they actually fake the motion of spiking the ball. That puts the defense in a bad spot. If the defense fires off the line and somehow hit the QB, then there is a chance for a roughing penalty. If they stop once they see the motion of the spike then they can get beat or injured while the offense runs a play.

It looked like it should have been a false start on the center as well. A center can't just stand up like that, can he?

The coach set up that play taking advantage of the fact that in such games, there are plenty of opportunities to pull a fast one like this. At this level you spend a lot of time guiding the kids to the right spot, take extra time between plays for confusing situations, you're teaching kids where to go, literally how to play football. You don't rush things or pull a fast one like this, because what you're trying to do is help the kids.

That coach, on that play, is an absolute ******-bag.

I had a coach in my Babe ruth league, 13-15 year old baseball.

He was my best friends coach, they did stuff as pitiful as that all the time. My buddy hated it. Couldnt stand him.

Almost every week they had something new. Complete BS.

The one they pulled the most was when there was a runner on first, taking a lead and the pitcher was in the stretch. He would step off throw to first real low, the first baseman would catch it and instantly turn and run and the coaches and rest of the infielders would yell "get the ball get the ball" as if it went past him. THe goal was to get the runner to take off to second so it would be an easy throw and tag him out.

I watched that play work about 4 times in 3 years, I can remember another coach who was in his 50s calling for time and sprinting across the field, ready to fight him. It was sorry. The older coach let him have it for like 15 minutes before they resumed. The team pulling tricks lost, and the ironic thing I can remember them doing another bogus play the following year against the same team and coach.

Pathetic. I saw that guy when I was home a month ago, he is still a jerk.
