Geez, I hate that.I want the ball every chance I can and then let the O set the tempo of the game. I just really hate that.

Really? I love it, we benefitted from starting the second half with the ball. Granted it might have been different, but I think possessions are a little more valuable in the second half.

Getting the ball first is nice, but for some reason, I've always liked getting the ball to start the second half, especially if you can have the last meaningful possession of the first half. If you score a touchdown right before halftime, then another to start the third quarter, that can be a major blow to an opponent that never even had a chance to answer in between your touchdowns.

It didn't work that way tonight (we got a field goal before halftime, then punted to start the third), but when it does work and you get 10 or 14 consecutive points without giving the opponent a chance, it can change the game.

funny i feel the exact opposite because i feel our O can score 6 and make up the deficit real quick even if we give up a score on the first drive. with the lead and then having the ball first in the 2nd half we will have the chance to put a lot of pressure on our opponents by opening up a big lead. makes the opponent 1 dimensional in the 2nd half and makes it easier on the D...

I understand that, and certainly, you are right, but I wonder what the odds are that that is going to happen.

I would bet the majority of the time, it happens just like it did tonight.

Whenever I play Madden, I always choose the 2nd half kickoff. I try to score right before the half, then punish them as soon as we come back.

Not me. I'd rather have the ball to start the 2nd half every game.

I guess I'm in the minority on this. That's ok. But I hope we can parlay that strategy into some back to back points.

We are good at second half adjustments, so it makes sense to want the ball at that time.

Every person I've ever played has deferred the KO at the start of a game in Madden. Granted, it's not at all the same as the real thing, but I've always generally like for my team to get the ball to start the second half.

Always get the ball 2nd half. If you're down 7 coming out of halftime, you can tie the game up. If you're up 7, you can start to put the game away. If the other team gets it they can either tie the game or start to put the game away on us. All bonuses, no negatives to deferring.

I agree.

When played correctly, two consecutive scores can be a serious blow to the mindset of the opposition.

With our offense, it puts a lot of pressure on defenses and DC's not to let us get on a roll (and their offense to "keep the pace"), so if we score at the end of the first half and they know we're coming back out in the second, the other team can really play tight.
