Games that don't really mean anything....rest starters, invent injuries to use as an excuse, don't play to win, don't show anything, etc....I admit that I did the same thing from time to time when I was coaching, but I didn't like it...I always felt like we lost momentum, our edge, our hunger....I don't like it, but I understand it's a neccessary evil...Don't confuse this with tanking, that's a different story.
I'm gonna a watch tomorrow and hope to see some of our backup players step up, those guys don't have guaranteed contracts and will play hard.....they need to put some good film out there for next year.
First, on a consideration basis where they are right now, watch the first two series at the lines on both sides of the ball. Don't even follow the ball. That will tell one just exactly where Dallas is for that game. Philadelphia or not...
The average time for Dak Prescott, has been about a consistent 2 seconds. That tears apart down field advantages. Add a second to that and give Dak 3 full seconds and 10-15 yard patterns start to open up.
That isn't as simple as Dak watching for where the linebacker is going to blitz. To defeat the blitz and constant pressure that Dak is currently receiving, he has to be given more time.
This could happen with successful man on man. But there are ways to add more time to the flow of things.
A strong tool is the screen. The running back fills in where the linebacker is blitzing. From the shotgun, Dak has enough time to dump it to the running back. Two linemen cut off the defending linebacker or secondary. A missed tackle and the running back breaks a long gain, but not a one or two yard affair.
Two linemen turn around and cut off flow from the blitzers back to the ball.
Many of today's linemen are just as fast as ball carriers around the line of scrimmage...large and all.
This being completed successfully will generally add about the needed second of time. A few deeper passes then coming open allows to really get creative and a rhythm can develop.
Two series, and if not successful, the team better start the adjustments then!
Let''s go Cowboys! Do the Eagles...and watching the line play for two series works for any level of play.
