I Hate the Off Season

This year the topics that have generated the most activity have been the Police Blotter type stories. Mike Vick and dog fighting, Pacman and strip clubs, Tank and alcohol levels, and does Goodell have any rights to do what he is doing.

I'm sick of all those stories. As sick as I was last year of the TO coming to Dallas circus? Yeah, that's the whole point. When we're discussing the value of who is attending mini camps and OTA's we're starving for real news and will take any facsimile of real news and run with it.

There's not a doubt in my mind that the NFL media knows and understands that football junkies live for this stuff. I mean if it is not obvious to them then they really haven't compared the NFL Draft to those of the other 3 big team sports leagues. The Draft is surpassed in popularity by only 3 or 4 sporting events of the entire NFL Off Season.

You definitely have to put March Madness above it, and possibly the Masters, Daytona 500, and Kentucky Derby. Nothing else even comes close.

Football is king in this country and the NFL media realizes this. The problem is once Free Agency and the Draft are out of the way the only stories that will generate a lot of buzz are the circus stories and that's where they focus their energies.

Thank heavens that in a few hours we're only going to be a week away from Training Camp. Thank heavens that we're going to start hearing news about the contract terms of our draft picks. Thank heavens that pretty soon we'll get to discuss actual football again.

Here's to no injuries, no Police Blotter stories, and good competition for positions at Camp this year. Bring on the real football stories and photos. Most of all bring on the discussions by the talking heads on who will be the best and who is going to stink. Bring on Fantasy Football. Speaking of that we need some leagues.

It's time for another season of hatred, and it's time this team mattered in the overall picture again. It's been another long dry spell and that just isn't acceptable.

Someone get me a recording of Hank Jr. asking if I'm ready for some football. I gotta tell Hank hell yeah I'm ready. The off season sucks.

What'cha talking about?

I am engrossed in several debates across the web, that normally, I don't get to participate in during football season.

Between arguing about the Bulls, Politics, and anticipating the new Harry Potter book, (and work, unfortunately), its been keeping me distracted.

Hos- cheer up- The British Open starts this week. Go Tiger!

I don't want to be distracted though Vintage. I want to live and breathe football 24/7/365. 366 on leap years. I want a cologne that smells like a new football. I want stadium food to be health food. I want my cable company to get off their duff and give me the NFL Network and when I die I want my cloud in heaven to have high speed.

Well Hos you know how it wears me out. I am probably even more wore out by it than you because of things.

I just wish it would hurry up and get here. Good football news, articles and stories on a regular basis.

Can't wait to read the reporters takes on camp. Even more anxious to hear fellow fans reports on them that are lucky enough to go to camp.

I'm looking forward to the British Open then the following week NFL camps open. As for the entire off-season what is the old saying absence makes the heart grow founder.

Whose your favorite to win it?

I would think Tiger. Myself I love watching Tiger play but I'm a Phil Mickelson fan and would love to see him win. I have always found if fascinating that he is right handed but learned to play the game left handed.

I am a huge Tiger fan too, and naturally, always predict him. After Lefty's literal giving it away at the Scottish Open, I question whether or not he can do it.

Too bad Van de Velde isn't in it....

No doubt Phil messed up and gave away the tournament last week. All in all he played well throughout the week but made some mistakes down the stretch. Now he is heading to the cow pasture they call the British Open and if he can put that behind him he seems to be striking the ball well enough to have a legit chance to win. As for Tiger, well he is Tiger he is always a favorite in any tournament he is playing. The guy is the best in the game

I can't wait for both. I'm already plotting how to steal the book before my wife and daughter grab it.

You think Tiger will win?

I am taking my 13 year old sister to the midnight opening to get our books...

And I am in the process of re-reading the other 6 books...

Do I think Tiger will win it? Well, Tiger vs the field? I take the field. But I am never surprised by anything Tiger does. He could be down 8 on the final shot, mathematically eliminated, and I'll still think "well, its Tiger....its still possible."

My babysitter's son (who was 6 or so years older than me) got me into golf a long time ago. When Tiger was an amateur, he turned me on to Tiger Woods and I've been a fan of him since. Naturally, I always "expect" him to win.

I am worried though....his putting at Congressional wasn't good. He's going to have to be straight off the tees and put much better. Hopefully, he uses more irons/3-wood off the tee and less driver.

God knows he has the strength and ability to play in any conditions that Car-nasty might have....

I was surprised there hasn't been a thread on this, to be honest...

This is one of the most anticipated book openings of all time.

When I was going back to college to finish my degrees I was managing some student apartments. I had some guys from the Arizona golf team living there. One of them had to play against Tiger several times. He told me then how unreal his focus was. He said that outside of his caddy he's not sure Tiger realizes there are other people there most of the time.

I take the field too in Tiger versus the field, but I root for him to win because it usually means some of the most spectacular golf possible. What's not to love about that?

Oh yeah, if anyone besides him wins the ESPN "Who's Now" nonsense it is a joke.

The 2005 Masters Chip in?

2000 Canadian Open? A 6 iron over the crowd and over the water from a fairway bunker?

Or what was that putt on a par 3, where he hit to the back of the green, and he had that nasty putt that broke several times....the announcers were talking about how Phil had something similar and the same putt where he barely hit it, and it rolled off the green.....I think it was a TPC event...Anyways, Tiger ends up sinking this amazing putt that breaks like 3 or 4 times.....and the greens were incredibly fast.
