I Hate the Offseason

From the time the Cowboys are eliminated at the end of the season to July is the longest 5-6 months of the year for me. The time from training camp up to the eve of the first game of the season is like December used to be when I was a kid, anticipating what was coming on Christmas. From the first game of the season to the time when the Cowboys are mathematically eliminated is like a prolonged Christmas.

But the offseason is brutal. I hate it. The only reprieve is Draft Weekend, which is painfully short. I know many of you feel the same way. You can tell by the activity on the board in the offseason. I hate it so much though, that I wish the Draft Zone were shut down until the season was over. I don't even want to THINK about what our draft position is going to be or who we might be targeting.

That's why it's so baffling to me that it seems like so many of you are ready to fold your hand after we've played 5 games. We're not even close to being done. To use another analogy... we may not be the chip leaders, but we still have chips. We're not even the short stack.

We've lost a couple hands. You may think that we have lost a big hand. But to quote Matt Damon, "Some people lose a big ****in hand like that and have the sack to ante up again."

Some of you complain about the mental toughness of the team, but are ready to cash in yourself. But this team hasn't cashed in yet. I'm not either. If you're ready to do that now, you need to take a look at your own mental toughness.

So you can call me pollyannish, a homer, or naive. But you'll have to forgive me if I'm not ready to give up the season after 5 weeks.

Word. I might even stop going to the chat on here during the games because people overreact like crazy.

Even some of the mods show some trollish behavior.

There are few giving up but many upset that this group is playing below standard. We can still rally and make a run, we have two weeks to get back on track and heal some players before our next 11 game stretch. I'm optimistic that we can do it but I'm also cognizant that these coaches are soft and incompetent, we'll see what happens...

I absolutely agree, man. I'll save my negativity for when we blow games. But when we win one, and in fun fashion to boot? No way am I going to be steaming on a day like this. It's the players' responsibilities to fix the minor things, not mine. My role is to enjoy the wins and gnash my teeth over the losses.

It cracks me up that as a fan base we yack about this team's lack of heart, mental toughness or whatever cliche that comes to our minds, yet so many are ready to fold down the shop whenever any little thing goes wrong.

I've been highly, highly negative all offseason. And by no means do I think today's win is a milestone or a sign that there's nothing wrong with the team. We have a long, long road ahead -- one in which we might not be able to find the end. But it was a sign we haven't burned our house down just yet and that there's still a chance (cue the Jim Carrey line).

There's only like five fan bases that should be feeling good right about now. But I don't think the other 27 should automatically tune out five games into the season.

Just the Rams, Panthers, Titans, Commanders, Bills, Browns and Chiefs fans have been told to go home.

There's no doubt, pep.

I guess we're far enough removed from a 6-10 or worse season that people have completely forgotten what that's like.

Or, worse still, we could not have football at all. I'm afraid that's what we're looking at very soon when the labor agreement ends. And that will REALLY suck.

We are an average team right now. I think the good part is that I still feel we have the ability to get better. Like all those losses some were writing us down for during the rest of season...maybe some are wins and maybe we get hot at some point and maybe we don't. That's why they play the games. With the ability to improve and standing at 3-2 I think it could be a lot worse. I think the Denver game really made a lot of us panic more than we should have. I don't agree with a lot of what the coaching staff has done at all, but I would rather like to see a similar preseason style list of games we win/lose, and i'd bet quite a few of us picked us to lose 2 of the first five...i'm gonna guess NYG and Carolina were the most popular answers.

Simmer down johnny boy. Most here are not ready to give up by any means... People see huge deficiencies and problems. This is a message board where those thoughts and ideas are documented. The revolution will not be televised so you can step down off of the soapbox. We're well on our way to 8-8 which I happened to have predicted in that long offseason and took a thrashing for it. Nostradamus would be proud... Oh, by the way, you forgot shill. I'm glad you're tickled pick by the road to mediocrity. Have fun with that. ;)

Serious question Bleu, though I'm not sure you deserve it.

You are predicting 8-8, and have been since TO left here. You took your thrashing, but you haven't changed your stance after seeing some games. Do you see any way that your 8-8 prediction could be wrong? Do you think that this team can right some of the little mistakes?

If you say no, then you have given up. I will expect you to not watch the rest of the season Monsieur Nostradamus.

Seriously.
