I would'nt be surprised either, this is something I have thought about happening, I don't understand Jones' love affair with Zimmer all these years the guys full of vanilla ice cream even before Bill got here.

I differ from others on this board in that I think Zimmer is a good defensive coach who looks bad at times because he's coaching a system that is relatively new to him.

However, Zimmer has never appeared to he to be a promising NFL HC candidate. I read back when he interviewed in Oakland that most teams viewed him as a poor candidate personality-wise. I think he's destined for the college ranks.

However, I think he might try to stay in the NFL for a couple more years -- I believe assistants have to serve for 15 years in the league to get a league pension when they retire. So he'd like try to stick it out as d-coord or even a d-back coach somewhere else for a couple years as he's now at 13 years of service.

Hatcher and Ellis at ends with Coleman backing up, Canty and Ferguson at tackle with Spears, Ratliff... Ayodele sliding back outside where he had so much success in Jacksonville, Carpenter progressing on the other side and Ware in the middle dominating games, getting at the QB unblocked or over a guard...

I would be shocked. Jerry cares way too much about fan support and selling tickets to promote Zimmer.

That wouldn't surprise me for one reason; Jerry is waiting on either Fisher or Cowher in 2008. Don't be terribly surprised if the Defense doesn't improve if Zimmer is free to call his own plays (see Sean Payton).
